What are functional skills?
They are essential skills in English, Maths and ICT that enable everyone to deal with the practical problems and challenges in life

English includes; Speaking & listening, Reading and writing.
Functional skills are a key to success. They open doors to learning, to life and to work
.
Unemployed or unemployable, not just for today but for the future.
Functional skills are based on a problem-solving approach and should be developed in a practical way through discussion, thinking and explanation, across the whole 11-19 curriculum.Slide3

Embedded in the revised programmes of study at Key Stage 3 and 4
Embedded in the revised GCSE subject criteria
A mandatory component of Diplomas, Foundation Learning Tier and Apprenticeships
