What are functional skills?

They are essential skills in English, Maths and ICT that enable everyone to deal with the practical problems and challenges in life

English includes; Speaking & listening, Reading and writing.

Functional skills are a key to success. They open doors to learning, to life and to work

Functional skills are based on a problem-solving approach and should be developed in a practical way through discussion, thinking and explanation, across the whole 11-19 curriculum.Slide3
