License Description: Individuals must pass an operator training course and a written examination. Incinerator certifications cost $200 for certification, $50 application fee, $160 textbook costs. Landfill operators must have a high school diploma or GED, must pass the required examination, must have 5 years of MSW management experience and 2 years of operating experience. Certifications last for 3 years. Required courses are taught by the Solid Waste Associaion of North American using private instructors under a memorandum of understanding with the state Department of Ecology.
