Now

the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is

freedom”.

God is doing some amazing things

The difference in this training vs. the faith healer (ex. Friend in HK)

Not dependent on one faith healer

For all disciples (including children)

Church is mobilized as the spiritual armySlide3

Christ’s Power & Authority

Today’s Focus

1

st

part – Christ’s Power & Authority

Physical healing

Luke 9:1 – “

When

Jesus had called the Twelve together,

he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure

diseases

2

and

he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God

 and to heal the sick

.”Slide5

What the Kingdom of God Look Like?

Mat 18:3 -

And Jesus said: “Truly I tell you,

unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

Rom 14:17 -

17

For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking,

but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy

Spirit

1Cor 4:20 -

20

For the kingdom of God is

not a matter of talk but of power

.Slide6

But Why?

Eph

1 -

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ.

Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.

Can you imagine such? Not really?Slide7

But Why?

Eph

1 -

5

God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ.

This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.

Great pleasure to bring us into His family (& His Kingdom- Rom 14, 1Cor 4)

How does that make you feel if you truly believe that?Slide8

We Are His Children

You and I are children of God (John 1:12)

Children full of faith and humility

Children filled with righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit

Children filled with power

Most importantly, children surrounded by God’s love

We love b/c He first loved

us (1Jn 4:19)

Note: Can’t fully love with hurt (mod 2)Slide9

What To Expect In This Training

We will answer the following…

Why has Christ given us His P&A?

How did Christ (& His disciples) walk in that P&A (to heal the sick

)?

Practice Demo 1

What is required and expected of those who received His P&A?

When/Where

should we walk in His P&A?

Practice Demo 2Slide10

Why was the power and authority given?Slide11

Why Was the P/A Given?

Luke

9,

10

– Jesus sent out the 12 and the 70 to heal, cast out demons, and preach the kingdom

Mat 28:18-20 – Jesus’ commission to make disciples of all nations

Acts

1:8 -

But

you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and

you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth

.”Slide12

How did Jesus

walk in power and authority

to heal the sick and

cast out the demons?Slide13

How did

Jesus Walk In The P&A

?

When Jesus started His ministry, He went forth to the desert for 40 days and received the power.

Luke 4:14 – “

Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside.”

Luke 4:18-19 – “

Walk in that power to set captives free and proclaim His Kingdom.”Slide14

How did

Jesus Walk In The P&A

?

Luke 4:

-

31

Then

he went down to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and on the Sabbath he taught the people.

32

They were amazed at his teaching,

because his words had authority

.

33

In the synagogue there was a man possessed by a demon, an impure spirit. He cried out at the top of

his voice,

34

’Go

away! What do you want

with us, Jesus

of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God

!’”Slide15

How

Jesus Walk in The P&A

?

Luke 4:

-

35

“’Be

quiet

!’”

 Jesus

said sternly.

‘Come

out of him

!’

Then the demon threw the man down before them all and came out without injuring him

.

36

All the people were amazed and said to each other,

‘What

words these are!

With authority and power he gives orders to impure spirits and they come out

!’”

Results in Luke 4:

37

And

the news about him spread throughout the surrounding area

.”Slide16

How did

Jesus Walk In The

P&A?

Luke 4:

-

38

Jesus

left the synagogue and went to the home of Simon. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they asked Jesus to help her.

39

So he bent over her and

rebuked the

fever

, and it left her. She got up at once and began to wait on them.

40

At sunset, the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and

laying his hands on each one, he healed them

.”

 Slide17

How did

Jesus Walk In The

P&A

?

John 5 -

(Pool at Bethesda)

When Jesus saw him

(invalid) lying

there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well

?”

7

“Sir,” the invalid replied, “I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me

.”

8

Then Jesus said to him,

“Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.”

At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked.Slide18

How did

Jesus Walk In The P&A

?

How did Jesus walk in P&A to heal the sick and cast out demons?

He Commanded or Rebuked sickness or demons.

He Laid hands on the sick.

He Commanded the sick to take actions that they could not before.Slide19

How did the disciples

walk in Christ’s

Power and Authority

to heal the sick and cast out the demons?Slide20

How did

The Disciples Walk In

P&A?

Lame man at the temple gate, Beautiful

Acts 3 -

6

Then

Peter said,

‘Silver

or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you.

In the name of Jesus Christ

of Nazareth, walk.’

7

Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up,

and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong.

He jumped to his feet and began to

walk...”

Results Acts 4:

4

But

many who heard the message believed; so the number of men who believed grew to about five

thousand.Slide21

How did

The Disciples Walk In

P&A?

Acts

9:32-35

32

As

Peter traveled about the country, he went to visit the Lord’s people who lived in

Lydda

33

There he found a man named Aeneas, who was paralyzed and had been bedridden for eight years.

34

’Aeneas,’

Peter said to him,

‘Jesus

Christ heals you. Get up and roll up your mat

.’

Immediately Aeneas got up.

35

All those who lived in

Lydda

and Sharon saw him and turned to the Lord

.”Slide22

How did

The Disciples Walk In

P&A?

How did the disciples walk in P&A to heal the sick and cast out demons?

The way Jesus taught them

They Commanded or Rebuked sickness or demons (in Jesus’ name or authority)

They Laid hands on them.

They Commanded them to take actions that they could not before (sometimes).Slide23

Why the Church

Has Failed

To Walk in Christ’s

Power & Authority?Slide24

Why We Failed to Walk in P/A

Don’t believe it’s for today

Have not seen it modeled

Fear and Abuse /Not called

Lack faith that God would heal thru us

Don’t have gift of healing

Main reason: Satan’s scheme to weaken the church (sit and soak on Sundays)

Mat 28:18-20 “All power and authority… GO… I’ll be with you always!”Slide25

How

do We Normally Pray For Healing?

“Father, in the name of Jesus, I pray…”

“Dear God, I pray that you would heal…”

“Lord, if it’s your will, please heal…”

We’ve seen the Lord respond to that at times… but not as effective.

Why?

Not obeying His command to

heal the sick

Relinquish our authority (ex. General)

Pass responsibility back to GodSlide26

Let’s Work at Giving A Command

First when you give a command, do you keep your eyes open or closed?

What should you do with your hands?

What words would you use?

How would you command pain to go away?

How would you give order for a person who has problem hearing?

How would you deal with a fever?Slide27

DEMO (Walk in P&A Given You)

Command/Rebuke sickness or demons

Use Imperative (You’re giving an order)

“Go! Be Healed! I rebuke you! Get

Out!”

Keep eyes open (You’re in a war)

Don’t pray to the Father (obeying His command)

Lay hands on area of sickness

Ask what areas they need to be prayed for

Command actions to be taken

Check to see if there’s something that they can’t currently doSlide28

Importance of Testimonies

Reasons we should give testimonies

Point people to Jesus

Build our faith

Encourage others to receive healing

How many received some healing from the Lord?Slide29

Definition of AuthoritySlide30

Jesus’ Definition of Authority

Mat 8 -

5

When

Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help.

’Lord,’

he said,

‘my

servant lies at home paralyzed, suffering terribly

.’

Jesus said to him,

’Shall

I come and heal him

?’

The centurion replied,

‘Lord

, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof.

But just say the word, and my servant will be healed

.’”

 Slide31

Jesus’ Definition of Authority

Mat 8 -

9

For

I myself

am a man under authority,

with soldiers under me. I tell this one,

‘Go,’

and he goes; and that one,

‘Come,’

and he comes. I say to my servant,

‘Do this,’

and he does it

.

10

When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him,

’Truly

I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel

with such great faith

.’”

To walk in authority, we must be under authority

To walk in authority, we must have faithSlide32

Must Have Faith to Walk in Authority

Why do we need faith to walk in authority?

Heb

11:1 -

1 ”

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”

It means that we believe that when we command the sickness to go, it will go!

It requires faith

It’s that faith that gives us the authority to rebuke a sickness or demon to goSlide33

We must be under authority, to walk in authority

Mat 8 -

9 ”

For I myself

am a man under authority,

with soldiers under me. I tell this one,

‘Go,’

and he goes; and that one,

‘Come,’

and he comes. I say to my servant,

‘Do this,’

and he does it.

A man IN authority understands that he is UNDER authority (ex. Joseph, Daniel)

For us to grow in authority, we MUST learn to submit to those in authority over us (ex. 1992)Slide34

What the Church Has ForgottenSlide35

What the Church Has Forgotten

The Church has forgotten that we are in a war!

When we read Mat 16:18 – “

And

I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it

.”

We have the defensive view!

When does anyone attack with gates?

The church, the army of Christ, is on the offense.Slide36

What the Church Has Forgotten

We attack with divine power.

2Cor 10:3-4

-

For

though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does.

The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds

.”

We are in a war!

We have divine power and authority!Slide37

What the Church Has Forgotten

In a war, if the General has commanded his soldiers to go into enemy territories to set prisoners free…

Does it make sense for the soldiers to keep asking the General if it’s ok to set free the prisoners?

“In the name of Jesus (our general), be healed (be free)!” vs.

“Father, in the name of Jesus, would you set them free?”Slide38

What If We Pray

And

There’s No Healing?Slide39

What If There’s No Healing?

Mat 17 -

14

a man approached Jesus and knelt before him.

15

’Lord

, have mercy on my son

,’

he said.

‘He

has seizures and is suffering

greatly…

16

I brought him to your disciples, but they could not heal him

.’

17

’You

unbelieving and

perverse generation,’ Jesus replied…’Bring

the boy here to me

.’

18

Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed at that moment

.

19

Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked,

‘Why

couldn’t we drive it out

?’”Slide40

What If There’s No

Healing?

Some Reasons That May be given

It’s not God’s timing

It’s not God’s will

They’ve sinned

They’ve lacked faith

Look at Jesus’ response in Mat 17:20

He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Slide41

What If There’s No

Healing?

Whom did Jesus rebuke? His disciples or the sick person?

Not because

It’s not God’s timing

It’s not God’s will

They’ve sinned

They’ve lacked faith

It’s because you and

I

lacked the faith

What usually would cause that lack of faith?Slide42

Cause For Lack Of Faith

Mat 14:25-31 (Jesus walking on water)

28

“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”

29

“Come,” he

said. Then

Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus.

30

But when he saw the wind,

he was afraid

and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”

31

Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him.

“You of little faith,” he said

, “

why did you doubt?”Slide43

Cause For Lack Of Faith

Lack of faith comes from our doubts

Difference between praying for some pain vs. praying for a dead person

Natural but what should we do w/ doubt?

Mark 9:24 – the father said, “Lord, I believe. Help my unbelief.”

Testimony of Indian lady

Cry out to God for greater faith

DEMO – “Lord Increase our faith!”Slide44

Should We Be Afraid?

When sicknesses are caused by spirits

Luke 13:11

-

a

woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit for

18

years

.

Luke

11:14

14

Jesus was driving out a demon that was mute. When the demon left, the man who had been mute spoke, and the crowd was amazed.

Mark

9:25 –

25

When Jesus saw that a crowd was running to the scene, he rebuked the impure

spirit.“You

deaf and mute spirit,” he said, “I command you, come out of him and never enter him again

.”Slide45

Should We Be Afraid?

Should we be afraid?

Sometimes we are

Luke 10 -

19

I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy;

nothing will harm you

.

That’s His promiseSlide46

What

If We Still Do Not See Healing

There are times when our faith appears to be lacking, and we require a bit more help?

Mark 9 (Story of a boy with convulsion)

28

After

Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately,

’Why

couldn’t we drive it out

?’

29

He replied,

’This

kind can come out only by

prayer & fasting.’”Slide47

What

About Prayer?

Acts 9 (

Dorcas

had died)

40

Peter

sent them all out of the room; then

he got down on his knees and prayed.

Turning toward the dead woman, he said,

‘Tabitha

, get up

.’

She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter she sat up.

41

He took her by the hand and helped her to her feet. Then he called for the believers, especially the widows, and presented her to them alive.

42

This became known all over Joppa, and many people believed in the Lord

.”Slide48

What About Prayer?

There’s a time when we need to pray (& fast)

But do not combine prayer with walking in P&A to heal at the same time

It’s showing our hands that we lack faith or that we doubtSlide49

What About Praying More Than Once

May pray multiple times for a healing.

Mark 8:

23

He

took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village. When he had spit on the man’s eyes and put his hands on him, Jesus asked,

’Do

you see anything

?’

24

He looked up and said,

‘I

see people; they look like trees walking around

.’”

25

Once more Jesus put his hands on the man’s eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly

.”Slide50

What About

the Faith Level of the Sick?

Does That Matter

In the Healing Process?Slide51

What About The Faith of The Sick?

Does the faith of the sick person matters?

Mark 5

(woman

subject to

bleeding)

-

28

because

she thought,

‘If

I just touch his clothes, I will

be healed.’

29

Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering…

34

He said to her,

’Daughter

, your faith has healed you.

Go in peace and be freed from your suffering

.’”Slide52

What About The Faith of The Sick?

Acts 14

In

Lystra

there sat a man who was lame. He had been that way from birth and had never walked.

He listened to Paul as he was speaking.

Paul looked directly at him, saw that he had faith to be healed

10

and called out,

‘Stand

up on your feet

!’

At that, the man jumped up and began to walk

.”

The sick person had

faith to be healed, but was

not healed until

Paul

walked in P/A.Slide53

What About The Faith of The Sick?

Mat 13:57 –

“But

Jesus said to them,

’A

prophet is not without honor except in his own town and in his own home

.’

58

And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith

.”

Collectively, if a town, city, or country lacks faith, little healing would take place.

As a church, our faith has grown.

A sick person’s faith could affect his healing positively or negatively.Slide54

After A Sick Person

Is Healed,

What is Expected of Them?Slide55

What Is Expected Of A Healed Person?

Physical healing is not the ultimate goal

Luke 17 (after 10 lepers healed)

15

One

of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. ..

17

Jesus asked,

’Were

not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine?

18

Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner

?’

19

Then he said to him,

’Rise

and go;

your faith has made you well

.’

We must teach them to come to JesusSlide56

What Is Expected Of The Healed Person?

Mat 12

-

43

“When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it.

44

Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’

When it arrives, it finds the house

unoccupied,

swept clean and put in order.

45

Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first

.”

The House needs to be occupied by the Holy Spirit.Slide57

What About Us?

Are There Requirements

That We Must Meet

Before We Start Healing?Slide58

What Is Required of The Disciple?

Faith in Jesus (

Acts 19 -

7 sons of

Sceva

)

Paul/Jesus I know, but who are you?

Can one play around with this?

Not for selfish gains (Simon

Acts

8:9-25)

Chevron worker

Not for

the thrill of power (Luke 10:17,20)

17

The 72

returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name

.”...

20

However

, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven

.”Slide59

What Is Required of The Disciple?

Walk in His P&A (& spiritual gifts) in love

1Cor 13:1-3

-

If I speak in the tongues

[

a

]

of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.

If I have the gift of prophecy

…and

if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.

If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may

boast

, but do not have love, I gain nothing

.Slide60

What Is Required of The Disciple?

Walk in His P&A (& spiritual gifts) in love

Mat 7:22 –

22

Many

will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’

23

Then I will tell them plainly,

‘I never knew you.

Away from me, you evildoers

!’”

Why?Slide61

What Is Required of The Disciple?

Walk in His P&A (& spiritual gifts) in love

1Jn 4:7 -

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God.

Everyone who loves

has been born of God and

knows God.

Walk in His P&A to advance His Kingdom

Many passages todaySlide62

What Is Required of The Disciple?

Does Age Matter?

Yes & No…

No: It’s given to all disciples

Yes: The children have more faith

Mat 18:3 (Implied)

And

he said:

’Truly

I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven

.’”

We’ve seen God used children in special waysSlide63

When & Where to Walk in P&A

Mainly in public areas

For the advancement of His kingdom

Encourage you to start doing so

Times when people brought the sick to Jesus

Could

be prayed for in the church

Other times it was with the 12

Could be in your cell groupsSlide64

Most Important Thing To Remember

What this training is all about!

God has given us His power & authority to heal so that people will come to know Jesus!!!

How can we start using this P/A to heal to bring people to Jesus?

Break into groups of 3-4’s in your church to brainstorm some ideas
