Southern Colonial architecture dates back to colonial America, and was developed in the south as the southern states began to become more wealthy.
History:
Architectural Style:
Southern Colonial
The style is based heavily on Greek Revival architecture as noted by the symmetrical design and large columned entrance. These
entrances were termed colonnades.
Southern Colonial architecture is still quite common throughout the southern United States, and its appeal has spread both north and west.
Many homes built prior to the US Civil War still exist throughout the south, and many still bear the scars of being hit during battles during that time.
