John mowed the lawn and earned $20. This made him happy, so he offered to mow the lawn every week as long as he got paid. Conversely, Jacob mowed the lawn, but didn’t get paid. Strangely enough, Jacob also offered to mow the lawn every week just for the joy of it, no reward. What is the difference between John and Jacob

? Both John and Jacob were motivated to mow the lawn but for different reasons. John was motivated extrinsically, meaning that he worked because of an external reward. The money drove him, so to speak. Jacob, on the other hand, worked because he was motivated intrinsically, meaning he did it for personal satisfaction; his motivation was internal or in his heart.

The main point is that motivation is important in our lives whether it is extrinsic or intrinsic.

without a doubt

, I can relate to Brian in many ways.
