Relay For Life - Portable 2 The Dowlings “Cancer isn’t stopping. So there’s always a reason to keep fighting. There’s always a reason to give. There’s always a reason to want to be involved.” Description: Join your classmates and those from across the county in seeing why “ WE ” is an unstoppable word against cancer. From bake sales to crazy sock day, tons of active participation, and help from Swiss Point Now(winner of the Best News Show in St Johns County), you’ll have plenty of FUN raising money and awareness here at SPMS!In the Spring we participate with all schools to celebrate those who have beaten cancer, remember those we’ve lost, and thank the friends and families who are caregivers for those affected by this awful disease. There’s food, games, music, and HOPE!Cancer does not discriminate based on age, gender, or race. We all can fight for a cure and be a part of something bigger than ourselves.

SWAT- Students Working Against Tobacco Ms. Brown Description: SWAT is Florida’s statewide youth organization working to immobilize, educate, and equip Florida youth to revolt against and de-glamorize Big Tobacco. SWAT is a united movement of empowered youth working towards a tobacco/nicotine free future. WE ARE BIG TOBACCO’S NIGHTMARE Please join Nurse Kelly to help educate your peers on the plots, tricks, the deceit of Big Tobacco!

The mission of ITS is to honor student achievement in the theatre arts.

History Club - Grade 6 Ms. Boyer, Cox & Aangnostou - Room 430 Description: Is History your favorite subject?Are you a Sixth Grade Raider? Come and join History club. We will explore different topics that you might just find exciting! We will have guest speakers throughout the year and creative projects to share to make you the history buff you’ve always dreamed of becoming! First 30 6th graders win a seat!

GSA- Room 510 Ms. Stahle & Ms. Horton Description:The SPMS GSA provides a safe and welcoming space for any student who wants to learn or talk about issues related to sexual orientation and expression. We play games, do team-building exercises and talk about what’s going on in our lives. We also complete activities that help to educate ourselves and others. Everyone is welcome, regardless of identity. The only requirement is an attitude of acceptance. We have a zero-tolerance policy for bullying or harassment.

8th Grade Book Club Ms. Espinosa- Room 530 Description: Are you interested in reading something other than middle school level books? Interested in discovering a new genre or author to follow? Sick of the same old books with the same old stories?In the 8th grade reading club, we will read Neil Shusterman’s distopian thriller, Scythe in the first and second quarters and discuss it on a weekly basis. We will follow up with its sequel, Thunderhead, and finish the year with the final book in the series, The Toll.You will not want to miss reading these books. They promise to not disappoint! **Neal Shusterman lives in Ponte Vedra so we’ll see if he can come speak to us at the end of the year!

Dreams Come True Club Ms. Slack and Ms. Cohen - Room 470 Description: This club raises money for a local organization called Dreams Come True that fulfills wishes for local children with life-threatening illnesses. We do a candy sale later in the first semester and a variety show in 2 nd semester.

Student Council - Room P1Ms. Chaires Description:This student body will work to make decisions for and help Swiss Point Middle School be the very best place for all students to attend school. Activities will include helping to plan school events, serving as student representation in school meetings and giving input to school administration.

Best Buddies Club - Mr. Beck/ Swestyn Description:Best Buddies International is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating one-to-one friendships and inclusivity. At SPMS, the Best Buddies Club will create a place of belonging, comfort, and fun for all students. Club members will be matched with students in our Access Points program based on similar interests. Throughout the year, we will have opportunities for buddies to connect during special events and activities. Best Buddies Club will not meet during every Raider Hour Club Meeting Day, meaning students will be able to belong to other clubs as well. You may even be able to attend other clubs with your Best Buddy!

STEM Science Club- Room 555Mr. Pauly & Mr. Grimes Description: WANTED: Future Technologists, Scientists, and Engineers who are looking for EXTREME Science!!!The STEM Science club is open for up to 30 students each session. Students will have opportunity for hand-on experimentation, modeling, use of various STEM kits (electronics, physics, simulations), group discussion on current science topics, and STEM Challenges (Individual and Group). Club members will participate in active and unusual demonstrations of scientific and engineering principles gaining a deeper understanding of theories and laws that govern our universe. Guests from the North Florida scientific, engineering, and technology community may also support the club.

Horse Lover’s Club - Room 680Ms. Gracy Description: If you ride horses, have horses, take lessons, or just love horses in general, this is the club for you!We will be talking about all of the different disciplines; English, Western, Jumpers, Dressage, Carriage, and more. We will learn about the breeds, make horse treats, and even collect “all things for horses” to donate to local horse rescues.

Chamber Ensemble- Room 891Mr. Whalen and Mr. Partin Description: Work in smaller groups with friends to learn new music in different arrangements than the full band. Get a head start on All-State, Solo & Ensemble, Night of the Arts and concert solos, or just come to have fun playing your instrument. This club is open to all students enrolled in any Band class.

Sass and Success- Room 525Ms. Kessel Description: Sass & Success is a young girls empowerment group that will assist members with leadership skills and personal growth. We will address topics such as: Finding your power Surrounding yourself with positivity Feeling good about the skin you’re in Safe internet use Gender equality We will create vision boards and A – Z positive affirmations charts. We will have a Schoology group to keep in touch in between meetings and receive additional information on our discussion topics. We will end each meeting with a yoga stretch and a five-minute meditation.

Sunshine State Readers Club - Room 640Ms. Lewis Description: We will be doing activities based on the themes, settings and situations from the characters in the SSYRA books!Requirements: Must have read at least one of the 2019-2020 Sunshine State Young Reader’s Award (SSYRA) books by the date of the first meeting! Titles are: -24 Hours in Nowhere -Knock Out -Adventurers Guild -Boy X -All’s Faire in Middle School -Breakout -Captain Superlative -Nightbooks -Elephant Secret -Slider-Ethan Marcus Stands Up -Small Spaces-Greetings from Witness Protection-Ivy Aberdeen’s Letter to the World-Playing Atari with Saddam Hussein

Silent Computer Lab timeMr. Grunick Description: If you would like to use this time for Silent Study Hall within the computer lab, this is the club for you. Serious students only, as this will be silent work time only.

Tabletop Games- RPG- Room 203 Mr. Fontana/Gowin Description: The Tabletop Games Club is a community of people who love to play and discover games. We offer opportunities to discuss and meet players of the games you already know and love, as well as opportunities for finding and trying games you never knew existed. The games we cover are of all sorts, from the simple to the insanely complex. We play role-playing games, card games, strategy games, war games, dice games, puzzles, and board games. We're always open to trying the new and unknown! Anybody can join, so get ready for laughter and adventure in a world of games!

Battle of the Books Club- Media CenterMs. Badger Description: This invitation only club is for students who have read or plan on reading 10 or more of this year’s Sunshine State Young Reader’s Award Books.You will receive an invitation to attend when you have completed your 10th SSYRA book or if you were on the team last year and have spoken to Ms. Badger. Participants will come together to review the 2019-2020 SSYRA books in preparation for the district Battle of the Books which will take place in January. Club members will receive a t-shirt and be able to attend the district Battle of the Books field trip.

New to Swiss Club - Cafeteria Ms. Luensman, Ms. Patterson, Ms. Ferguson Description:Are you a 7th or 8th grader new to Swiss Point this year? Come join this fun, social group to enjoy games, chats, and the company of other students new to our school. Being a new Raider can be both exciting and frustrating. Only other new students know what it is really like! Make connections, get questions answered, and celebrate successes with us.

Screen Printing Club- Room 775 Ms. Montesano Description: In this club we will be learning, experimenting and creating with screen printing. We will also learn different processes and types of printing other than silk-screen. Members of this club will create a variety of art pieces for personal use as well as the school and/or community. Student’s do not need to be taking an art course to join this club. All rules and expectations of the art room apply during this club and will be reviewed at the first meeting.

Art Club- Room 715Ms. Pascual Description: Purpose of the Art Club: To give students the opportunity to meet in a more relaxed & informal setting to discuss & work on drawing and painting projects. Work includes a combination of independent projects, collaborative projects, & projects that will service the school & community. Students do not need to be currently enrolled in an art class to participate. Student Responsibilities: Space in art club is limited to 25 students. Students will create artwork relating to different topics throughout the year. Students should plan to attend regularly. Students are expected to follow the studio expectations, which will be discussed at the first meeting.

Creative Writing Room Ms. Norton Description:Students will write to a variety of prompts and illustrate and write poems and short stories.

Yearbook Club Ms. Gibian- Description: Open to students in yearbook, this club will allow students time to take photos, and focus on yearbook marketing and sales.

Math Counts Club -8th grade Room 585 Ms. Amatangelo Description: Do you like math? Me too! Join the Mathcounts Club to participate in fun and engaging math challenges and enhance your problem solving skills. Within our club we will compete against each other and the top scoring individuals will get the opportunity to represent our school as they compete at the district Mathcounts competition!

Math Counts Club -7th grade Room 575 Ms. WilkieDescription: Do you like math? Me too! Join the Mathcounts Club to participate in fun and engaging math challenges and enhance your problem solving skills. Within our club we will compete against each other and the top scoring individuals will get the opportunity to represent our school as they compete at the district Mathcounts competition!

NJHS Leadership Group - Room 410 Ms. Barnes Description: Current 8th grade members, that have been elected into positions of leadership, will use this time to meet and discuss upcoming projects and events for the National Junior Honor Society. The leaders of the NJHS will find projects that are impactful schoolwide to complete over the course of the year, as well as plan large scale events, such as induction and our group’s reward field trip.

FCA- Fellowship of Christian Athletes - MPRSchulz and Dahlenburg Description: First of all, you don’t need to be an athlete or a Christian to join this club. However, if you would like a safe and fun place to “plug in” at Switzerland Point, then, please sign up. Forms MUST be picked up from the front office and filled out by this Friday. Space is EXTREMELY limited for this popular club!

6th Grade Book Club - 420Ms. Burns This club is for 6th graders who just love to read! We will be doing a “Book Tasting” the first time we meet to then we will vote on what book we would like to read before our next meeting. At the next meeting we will discuss what we read (maybe do a fun activity too) and then vote on our next book! And so the cycle continues :)

Cursive Writing Club 425 Ms. Smith & Bishop Description: Are you looking to improve your penmanship ? In this club students will explore reading and writing in cursive.

Origami Club - Room 6 Mr. Mancini Description: In this club we will learn about the history of Origami and how it is related to mathematics.. We will use the ancient techniques of folding paper to create simple and complex 2D and 3D objects from flat pieces of paper.

Bunco Club Ms. Rizzuto Description: Bunco is a social dice game, played with 20-24 players, who are divided into tables with four players at each table. During the game, players at each table take turns rolling three dice to try and earn points by rolling the Target Number. Social interaction is part of the game, as players switch partners and tables throughout the game.

Silent Sustained ReadingMs. Fagan Description: Independent Reading Club: Did you check out an awesome book in the library but can’t find time to read it? Then this club is for you! During Independent Reading Club, you can read can work on your independent reading book assignment or just sit back and enjoy reading/listening a novel you have been wanting to finish. Bring your own book to this club and enjoy uninterrupted quiet reading time. During some parts of the school year, we may decide to read the same book together or break into smaller groups and read books about the same topic. Of course, we all will celebrate our reading success with occasional treats, too. Happy reading!

Silent Study Hall Description: For students who want to use the club day to get caught up on additional work in a silent setting, you may opt into a silent study hall. During this time every student who attends will be expected to work silently in their seats on unfinished class work. Serious students only, please.

WEB Club:Ms. Farris & Ms. Betancourt Description: A club Where Everybody Belongs! This is a club for 6th grade students to socialize and have a place for fun and friends at school. Each club meeting, WEB Leaders will lead activities for the club to have fun, get to know themselves and each other, and just… belong!

Walk and Talk ClubMrs. Fallon and Mrs. Gregory DescriptionWe will walk around the school perimeter. We will start with good news and discuss pop culture such as movies, book, etc.

Chess/Playing Card Club- Mr. MatchunisRoom 415 Description: For students who want to hone their strategy and mind in a calm environment through playing chess or a card game.

Math MadnessMrs. Vega Room 565Description: Math games that will focus on fluency skills in a fun, fast and competitive atmosphere. Games and puzzles will be involved, such as Jeopardy, Trivia and minute madness (a race to solve as many problems as you can in a minute or two). A great way to remember those math facts or practice order of operations in a fun environment!

Sports Talk:Mr. Messick Description:In this club, you will get together with a group of like minded sports fans and use your collaboration skills to discuss key aspects of the most popular sports.

Fitness ClubMr. Santoro, Mr. Millington and Mr. Singleton Description:FITNESS CLUB: This club encompasses weighted and body weight exercises to gain muscle mass, while achieving cardiovascular endurance. This club targets all muscle groups by engaging in dynamic and isometric movements. The workouts will be done with high intensity and high energy. It is designed to promote strength, cardiovascular endurance, lean muscle growth, and excess fat loss. Activities will vary.

Math Food NetworkLynch Description:Students will create videos that deal with mathematical concepts and food. These videos can be used for instruction and possibly for SPMS news.

Collaboration Rooms Various Teachers Description:21st Century Essential skills demand that students know more than JUST grade level content. Our increasingly complex world demands that each one of us be able to show creativity, character, critical thinking and collaboration. In this room, you will complete teacher generated activities which PUSH you to show your ability to effectively collaborate with your peers to accomplish a task. When selecting note which session you are interested in. Collaboration rooms exist for the following content areas: ELA 7, Cross Curricular 8, Math 6. ELA 8, and Extra Support, Spanish

Critical Thinking Rooms Various Teachers Description: 21st Century Essential skills demand that students know more than JUST grade level content. Our increasingly complex world demands that each one of us be able to show creativity, character, critical thinking and collaboration. In this room, you will complete teacher generated activities which PUSH you to show your critical thinking and reasoning skills with logic games and puzzles.

Character Room Description: 21st Century Essential skills demand that students know more than JUST grade level content. Our increasingly complex world demands that each one of us be able to show creativity, character, critical thinking and collaboration. In this room, you will complete teacher generated activities which PUSH you to show your Character through various character based activities and service related projects.
