The Reichstag was weakWorking class and middle-class people had no say in how the country was runThere was no opposition to the KaiserOpposition leaders were imprisoned Germany was ruled as a military dictatorship by the Kaiser and his army leaders. This weakened the Reichstag further.

The war made Germans bitter and angry. All hopes of the pre-war years had been dashed. Germans looked for someone to blame. A country that had once been famous for its unity and the obedience of its people now became famous for its squabbling.

Before the war, the Germans had been proud and ambitious for their country, and they were prepared to work hard for its success.
