Improperly prepared containers should never be accepted for transportation under any circumstance.
Examples of unacceptable packaging are:
Leaking containers, protruding objects, improperly closed containers, overfilling and mislabeled containers.

but not vice versa!
Ex. RMW (a DOT Hazardous Material) is not defined by EPA as being RCRA Hazardous Waste.Slide18
Security Measures
Keep RMW storage areas restricted from the general public and unauthorized, untrained personnel
Train personnel handling RMW
Follow Medical Waste policies and procedures
Know your driver: Don’t be afraid to ask for ID, watch for unmarked vehicles
Make sure all containers are properly packaged, marked and safe for transport before the driver loads them on to the truck
For the purposes of this training, please note that a written security plan is not required of workplaces shipping hazardous materials.Slide19
