An Introduction. What’s the difference?. Crime is normally seen as behaviour that breaks the formal, written laws of a society. This behaviour could be classed as minor crime such as dropping litter or major crime such as murder. What is it?. Behavior that departs from societal or group norms. Ranges from criminal behavior to wearing heavy make-up. Deviance is a matter of social definition and can vary from group to group and society to society.
