Geopolitics: Transcript
The world is a complicated place Here is the plan Students will be able to define the term Geopolitics Students will read and comprehend a current events article Students will analyze and relate current events in Syria to the term Geopolitics. The aim of this module is to understand the rise of the East Asian region through analysing the interconnections between development and geopolitics. The module adopts an historical approach beginning with an examination of the legacies of European and Japanese imperialism and the subsequent role of post-war US hegemony and Cold War politics in shaping development across the region. It also examines the nature of the post-Cold War era for East Asia. The module also critically examines various theoretical frameworks and debates concerning late development, including realist IR theory, neoclassical development theory, state institutionalism, and theories of imperialism. The module thereby provides a unique means with which to examine contemporary shifts in the distribution of global power. . crisis . of. Japan’s quake and tsunami. Thomas O’Donnell. is a fascinating introduction to a pioneer of geopolitics. Halford Mackinder\'s trailblazing ideas have influenced international politics to this day. His concept that world domination depends on the control of the global pivot area or heartland - the centre of the large land mass of Europe and Asia - has informed the political tactics and wars in the Middle East and Eastern Europe through the decades. His theories have influenced politicians and political scientists for generations, most notably Zbigniew Brzezinski, adviser to a long line of U.S. presidents. In our times, the importance of Mackinder\'s heartland theory for the United States\' fight to enforce global hegemony, Russia\'s struggle to stay independent and relevant on a world stage, and China\'s plans to establish a trade route between East and West, make Heartland essential reading for understanding our world.\" 14/12/2023.
