Location
This biome is found in the middle latitudes around the globe. More specifically the temperate forest biome is found in Eastern United States, Canada, Europe, China, Japan, and parts of Russia
.Slide3
Weather
The average precipitation in the temperate forest is 30 – 60 inches. In summer the average is 70 degrees Fahrenheit ( 21 degrees Celsius). The average temperature in winter is below freezing. Slide4
Diversity
The temperate forest has all four seasons unlike most of the other biomes. Also the forest’s trees change as each season passes by. It’s trees also looses it’s leaves and go into dormancy, which is like sleep. It’s trees’, unlike some biomes’ trees’ , have leaves instead of pine needles.Slide5
Biodiversity
Some of the animals that live in the temperate forest biomes are white-tailed deer, weasels, turkeys, squirrels, skunks, scorpions, and red-tailed hawks. Some of the plants that live here are oak, maple, beech, chestnut,
and hickory. Slide6
Importance to planet Earth
The temperate forest biome is important because the forest provides many resources including food, timber, oxygen, and water. This biome also enjoyed by many people, often used for hiking and camping.Slide7
Fun Facts
The Temperate Forest has 5 layers from their tree tops down to the ground. There is the Tree Stratum Layer, Small Tree (Sapling Layer), Shrub Layer, Herb Layer,
and Ground Layer. This biome is the world’s second most rainiest biome. It’s soil is quite fertile often enriched with fallen leaves, twigs, logs, and dead organisms. Slide8
Threats to this Biome
Humans have caused many damage to the temperate forest. Air pollution from factories cause acid rain and this acid rain causes trees to produce smaller and fewer seeds. We also threat this environment by introducing non-native species of plants and animals. Clear cutting of forests are also a damage causing effect on the temperate forest.Slide9
