Slide2Siegfried’s Saga -A poem by Laurie Fincham
Siegfried and Russ, two friends at HP, tried designing themselves the best speakerBut try as they might they could not get the response right in the band between woofer and tweeter. On axis okay but up and down disarray, the response was beginning to teeter. After a probe they found the main lobe bobbed up and down due to phase shift between the two driversThey knew that equidistant from both the phase shift must be due to the filter. So Russ, without fuss, moved zeros and poles that removed peaks and holes, and zeroed the relative phases. Now with no phase between woofer and tweeter the off-axis response couldn’t be sweeter. If your off-axis response is out kilter, the answer maybe a new filter. There’s one worth a smiley 😀 😄 😇and it’s called Linkwitz-Riley.
