Why Integrate?Strengths and limitations of both applications

Logic behind integrationSurvey123 ConsiderationsPreparing the DataSetting up the feature and related table in ArcMapAuthoring the Survey123 FormXLS form setup and configurationIncorporating Survey123 forms into Collector mapCustom URL SchemeConclusionOverviewSlide3

Collector for ArcGISWhy Integrate?

StrengthsMap-centric: Field workers can visually locate assetsSupports high-accuracy GPS receiver observations*Can work with polygons, lines, and pointsLimitationsData entry is limited to direct text entry and domain drop-downsLack of on-the-fly calculations that are often necessary in the field*

No way to mitigate the collection of superfluous data*Slide4

Survey123Why Integrate?

StrengthsForm-centric: higher level of data integrity – smart formData collection reporting tools*Customizable appearanceLimitationsLack of reference map to use for location context/planningDifficult to know which assets or locations have already been visitedAlone it only supports point featuresSlide5

Why Integrate?

Locating the asset or inspection site is of high importanceData that needs captured is too complex for simple domain drop-down choices or manual text entryReporting and analysis of collected data is desiredSlide6

Why Integrate?

By leveraging the smart formcapabilities of Survey123with the mapping componentof CollectorWe can create applications that are easy for data collectors to usewhile still maintaining data integritySlide7

*For this reason, we will only be discussing desktop-created surveys

Survey123 ConsiderationsSurveys can be created on the web at survey123.arcgis.com or on the desktop with Survey123 ConnectCreating surveys on the web has an easy to use, drag and drop graphical interfaceHowever, utilizing Survey123 Connect gives you full smart form capabilities with more functionalitySlide8

Survey123 ConsiderationsSurveys can be created “from scratch” or from a hosted feature service

When a survey is created from scratch and published, an associated feature service is automatically createdSlide9

Survey123 ConsiderationsWe will be discussing the integration of surveys created from hosted feature services that have related tables

It is with this workflow that we will gain the most functionality from integrating the two applicationsSlide10

Prep the DataIf the feature already exists, move it to a FGDB

* Add records for the feature and attribute as necessary* Add static fields (i.e Location, Name, etc.)* Add GUID field (i.e. Facility ID/Global ID)Create the feature class of the asset inside a FGDB* Keep fields with static data* Add Global IDs/Unique IDs if necessary* Move fields with observable data to table that will be relatedSlide11

Prep the DataCreate an empty table in the FGDB that will hold your survey data

Create a 1:M relationship class between the feature and the table* Keep in mind: field aliases = survey form labels(questions)* Add fields for observable data* Make sure to add a GUID field to relate the table to the featureSlide12

Prep the DataSlide13

Prep the DataAdd the feature class and the related table to an MXD

Symbolize and set scale thresholds as necessary and publish as a feature serviceSlide14

Prep the DataView the feature service in AGOL or Portal

Enable Attachments on the feature and the related tableSlide15

Authoring the Survey123 FormOpen Survey123 Connect on your desktop and sign in to your portal or AGOL account

Click on “New Survey”Slide16

Authoring the Survey123 FormGive a title to your form

Select feature service on the left radio button and then select the feature that you publishedSlide17

Authoring the Survey123 FormA Survey will be created based on the feature service

* This will include fields from both the layer and its related table(s)* It will also automatically create a geopoint field for location purposesSlide18

Authoring the Survey123 FormDelete the rows associated with the layer

* The survey will be based on the fields in the related table only* You will be calling up the Survey from the location in Collector, so placing a point for the Survey will not be necessaryDelete the geopoint rowSlide19

Authoring the Survey123 FormThe Survey123

XLSForm has four tabs* Survey – where you will enter your field types, names, and labels* Choices – holds choices for the select_one type questions (domains)* Settings – holds the form id and submission url* Types – a reference page for supported data types and other settingsSlide20

Authoring the Survey123 FormClick on the Settings Tab

Notice the form_id field – this is referencing the feature service that the survey was created fromThis should be changed to the name of the related table you are working withBy default it will contain the name of the feature layerSlide21

Authoring the Survey123 FormSlide22

Authoring the Survey123 FormClick on the Choices TabSlide23

Authoring the Survey123 FormGo back to the Survey Tab

Notice the rows with type “begin repeat” and “end repeat”Slide24

Authoring the Survey123 FormVery important – notice that the GUID field from the related table doesn’t show up inside the Survey123 Form

This must be manually added as a “text” data typeThe esriFieldType column then must be specified as a GUIDSlide25

Authoring the Survey123 FormWhen you are finished making changes, publish the surveySlide26

Authoring the Survey123 FormGo to AGOL or portal – the survey will have been published to its own folder – Form item typeSlide27

Authoring the Survey123 FormGo to the details page – make a note of the survey form ID # - this will be used inside collectorSlide28

Open the Collector App from the mobile deviceWhen you click on the asset you want to inspect the pop-up will then include the link to the Survey123 formSlide35

The survey will open, passing the parameters that were specified in the URL schemeThere is no need to download the survey to the Survey123 app on the mobile deviceSlide36
