Unit 2Slide2

1 ½ cup sugar

Doubled:

1 ½ + 1 ½ =

3 cups sugar Could do: 1.5 + 1.5= 3Slide3

1 ½ cup sugar

Halved:

1 divided by 2=

½ cup½

divided by 2= ¼

cup½ + ¼

= ¾ cup sugarThink of Quarters:

1 ½ dollars would equal 6 quarters.Half of 6 would be 3, $0.75, or ¾ of a dollar!Slide4

¼ cup brown sugar

Doubled:

¼ + ¼ = 2/4 =

½ cup brown sugarThink of Quarters: ¼ of a dollar is $0.25

$0.25+ $0.25= $0.50 (HALF

of a dollar)Slide5

¼ cup brown sugar

Halved:

Half of ¼ cup = 1/8 cup.

Because we don’t have 1/8 cup, we go by Tablespoons.There are 4 Tablespoons in ¼ cup (16 T in 1 c)

So there are 2 Tablespoons in 1/8 cup!Slide6

2/3 cup peanut butter

Doubled:

2/3 + 2/3 = 4/3 =

1 1/3 cup peanut butterSlide7

2/3 cup peanut butter

Halved:

2/3 divided in half =

1/3 cup peanut butterReverse: 1/3+1/3=2/3 Slide8

2 ¼ cup oats

Doubled:

2+2=

4¼ + ¼ = ½

4 + ½

= 4 ½ cup oatsSlide9

2 ¼ cup oats

Halved:

2 dived by 2=

1 Half of ¼ cup = 1/8 cup.

Because we don’t have 1/8 cup, we go by Tablespoons. There are 4 Tablespoons in ¼ cup (16 T in 1 c)So there are

2 Tablespoons in 1/8 cup!1 +

2 T = 1 cup + 2 T oatsSlide10

¾ cup milk

Doubled:

¾ + ¾ = 6/4 = 1 2/4 =

1 ½ cup milkThink of quarters: ¾ is the same as 75 cents (3/4 of a dollar)

75 cents + 75 cents= $1.50 (1 ½ dollars)Slide11

¾ cup milk

Halved:

We know that ¾ cup= ¼ c + ½ c

Half of ¼ cup is 2T (1/8 c)

Half of ½ cup is ¼ cupSo,

¼ cup +

2T = ¼ c + 2T milkSlide12

1 tsp. salt

Doubled:

1 tsp. + 1 tsp. =

2 tsp. saltSlide13

1 tsp. salt

Halved:

1 divided in half =

½ tsp. saltSlide14

2 tbsp. cocoa

Doubled:

2T + 2T = 4T

Because 4T = ¼ cup, we go with the more simple answer: ¼ cup cocoaSlide15

2 tbsp. cocoa

Halved:

2 divided in half =

1 tbsp. cocoaSlide16

1 tsp. vanilla

Doubled:

1 + 1 =

2 tsp. vanillaSlide17

1 tsp. vanilla

Halved:

1 divided in half =

½ tsp. vanillaSlide18

2 eggs

Doubled

2 + 2 =

4 eggsSlide19

2 eggs

Halved:

2 divided in half =

1 eggSlide20

3 + 3 =

6 cups flour Slide21

3 cups flour

Halved:

3 divided by 2 =

1 ½ cups flourSlide22

12 oz. walnuts
