Define Scope of collection

The holdings of the data archive will include data generated by social science researchers, or in a broader sense any data relevant to society produced by scientists, government institutions

, or

commercial entities

. The data archive will collect both contemporary and historical data. The primary focus of the archive will be on

quantitative data

in the social science disciplines of

sociology, psychology, education science, information science, political science, and economics

. The data archive will also collect and curate qualitative data.

Support

Define your support team / your promotorsDifferent institutions or peopleLibrary, deans office, research institutions

Journals

Promote OPEN SCIENCE PRINCIPLES

Research publications and research data needs to be openly accessible:

to

be able to

check the validity

of published findings / better monitoring, assessment and evaluation of researchsupport multiple findings (using different theoretical starting points, different analytical approaches) based on the existing knowledge.Slide8

SEEDS Workshop I

13-15.10.2015Acquiring survey

Need to be highly proactive and persistent (open calls, announcements at conferences, and direct solicitation)

Need good working

relationship with stakeholders

an potential depositors (NSI, Research institutes, Agencies…)

Promotion

activates to raise awareness and encourage despotic (workshop, round tables, training events)

Agreements

with founding bodies and publishersData discovery activity (search academic journals)

Study accepted

Prepare materials for the deposition to the Archives:

Fill

in

the Study description form

, providing the following information as well: the title of the study, its authors, the abstract, any other specific information and study methodology description.

Organize and document

microdata

file(s) properly.

Original questionnaire (printed and electronic version).Prepare other materials which could help interpreting the content of the data. They include: codebooks, frequency files, interviewer instructions, information about carrying out the research and copies of publications. Other accompanying documentation as part of data collection or simply being important for understanding data should be provided as well.Fill in and sign the License agreement form which includes the Overview of deposited materials. Deposition to the ADP - Deliver the documentation and the materials using protected Cloud. Slide13

ADP – Study classification by relevance

The ADP accepts data that meet the basic criteria of quality and are of interesting content for further analysis. Delivered data are regarded as a scientific publication according to ARRS criteria. ARRS criteria for scientific publications

Study categories:

1.

Studies outside the geographic or thematic archive’s framework,

2.

Ad hoc limited quality studies,

3.

Studies with limited problematic or theoretical framework

, 4. Studies with a limited conceptual framework, less methodologically sophisticated,5. Interesting studies as an attempt to conceptualize a new area at ad hoc samples,6. Studies with a limited problematic or theoretical framework and a narrower applicability to a number of practical problems; methodologically and contextually improved7. Theoretically or practically relevant studies limited to a less general population; less influential,8. Theoretically or practically important studies which fill the research gap or have wide applicability for many practical problems and have a long-term value to science9. The highest rank, comparative or continual studies, a relevant population, methodologically appropriate.Slide18

SEEDS Workshop I13-15.10.2015

Good documentationData files must be clean and clear; interpretable and searchable (with codebooks)

Data should be accompanied with adequate documentation that explains the context of the data collection, methodology, and any material relevant to the data.
