PC-125x Counter-Balanced Backdraft DamperCode No. LIT-12011820Issued April 27, 2015 PC-125x Counter-Balanced Backdraft Damper Product Bulletin Construction Sample SpecificationFurnish and install, at locations shown on plans or in accordance with schedules, counter-balanced backdraft control dampers meeting the following minimum construction standards:•Damper frame must be minimum .090 in. (2.3 mm) minimum wall thickness, 6063-T5 extruded aluminum with 12 gauge galvanized steel structural brace at each corner.•Blades shall be .025 in. (.6 mm) minimum roll-formed aluminum with extruded vinyl blade edge seals mechanically locked into blade edge. Adhesive or clip on type seals are unacceptable. Blades shall include field adjustable, zinc-plated, steel counter-balance weights to allow pressure relief at less at .01 in. wg.•Bearings must be corrosive resistant, long life synthetic type for quiet operation.•Linkage must be 1/2 in. (13 mm) wide tie bar, concealed in the frame.•Dampers must be designed for maximum 1500 fpm spot velocities and up to 4 in. wg back pressure, depending on damper size. Dampers shall be in all respects equivalent to Johnson Controls PC-1250 damper.•Submittal data must include published leakage, pressure drop, and maximum pressure data based on Air Movement and Control Association International (AMCA) Standard 500 testing. Data must cover a full range of damper sizes; data from one size sample is not acceptable.Table 2: MaterialsPartMaterialsFramePC-1250: 2 x 1 in. 6063-T5 extruded aluminum, .090 in. Static pressure and cubic feet per minute (cfm) are corrected to .075 lb/cu. ft air density.Leakage and PressureDampers may tolerate higher pressures and velocities than those listed in Table3, Table4, and Table5. Conservative ratings are presented intentionally in an effort to avoid misapplication. Consult a JohnsonControls® representative when a damper is to be applied in conditions exceeding recommended maximums. Do not twist or rack the frame square. Use shims between the damper frame and the opening or duct to prevent distortion of the frame square.2.Multiple section assemblies must be fastened together on the top, bottom, and all sides. Use appropriate bracing at every horizontal mullion and vertical bracing every 8 feet of damper width.3.To complete the operation, position blade counter balance weights to set the desired blade opening 4.For fan discharge applications, locate the damper at least half the fan diameter from fan discharge. Isolation from excessive fan vibration is recommended.Technical SpecificationsThe performance specifications are nominal and conform to acceptable industry standards. For application at conditions beyond these specifications, consult the local Johnson Controls office.
