DECLENSIONS/TYPES OF ADJECTIVES: 1. 1ST/2ND DECLENSION: laetus, -a, -um – happy; pulcher, pulchra, pulchrum - beautiful 2. 3rd DECLENSION: fortis, fortis, forte – strong/brave audax, audacis, audace – boldIDENTIFICATION OF ADJECTIVES:Identified in the dictionary by the nominative, singular forms ex. laetus, -a, -um – happy = 1st/2nd declension adj.*** ex. felix, felicis, felice – favorable = 3rd declension adj. ***NOTA BENE: GENDER of the adjective will be the SAME as the GENDER of the noun thus, a feminine noun = 1st decl. adj. endings, masculine noun = 2nd decl. adj. endings NOUN/ADJECTIVE AGREEMENT

THE RULES!!!ADJECTIVES must “agree” with the nouns they describe/modify in 3 ways:Gender (masculine/feminine/neuter)Number (singular/plural)Case (nom., gen., dat., acc., abl., voc.)The NOUN will give you all the info. necessary to make the adjective agree with it.e.g. Make “bonus, -a, -um – good” agree with the following form of, “puella, -ae (f.) – girl”_______________puellam 1.)
