Historical Stage AD 28-30

The first stage

(

the beginning)

of the Gospels was the life of Jesus.

Jesus was a Jewish man

The virgin Mary gave birth to Jesus

In

6 BC, during the reign of Augustus Caesar

L

ived in Israel about two thousand years ago.

His first thirty years of life were mostly unknown and very little is

taught

of that time.

H

e spent his final two/three years,

preaching about the reign of God, forgiving sins, healing the sick and the possessed, and attracting followers.

He died on a cross in about the year 30.

The Sunday after his death, the tomb in which he had been laid was found to be empty.

Grave robbers, some suggested, whilst others claimed to have seen and been in the presence of the risen Jesus.

The Writing Period

60-100CE

Slide15

This is the time when the four gospels we have today came to be written.

Slide16

The Stage of Gospel Writing, AD. 65-100

S

ome people wrote down the sayings and stories of Jesus during the period of

human

preaching.

T

ook notes and memorised what had been said.

Between A.D. 50 and A.D. 65, letters, written summaries,

sayings, and collections of parables and miracles began to circulate.

F

irst generations of the Church, the Apostles and other first

generation Christians relayed their eyewitness encounters with Jesus to converts.

A

s time passed, the eye-witness and participants began to die/killed.

Jesus wasn’t returning as soon as had been expected.

This led to the creation of the written accounts of the Gospel.

Mark was the first to put the oral and written traditions in

In

Jerusalem in A.D. 70.

In

the

next thirty-five or forty years, the other evangelists did the same.
