christmas information

The Christmas traditions of Hawaii is a labor of love and creativity. Hawaiians import their Xmas trees long before the season arrives from across the Pacific Ocean, which arrive on the Xmas Tree Ship. They look for the best grand firs, noble, and other popular varieties of fir or pine. Many grow their own trees in their backyard. More creative Hawaiians create Xmas trees by decorating the Palm trees for outdoor displays and they substitute Santa Claus’s sleigh and reindeers with an outrigger canoe and dolphins.

christmas traditions

Many of the Christmas Traditions in Hawaii come from the customs brought to the islands by the missionaries of the 19th century

Popular plants include the poinsettia, which grows on the islands. Wreaths are popular made from plants from the islands

Hawaiian Traditions consist of a mix of Hawaiian, Mainland, Japanese and Chinese customs

Santa Claus arrives from a boat at Waikiki Beach

Christmas lights are switched on at Honolulu Hale

One unique Hawaiian tradition is the Christmas luau

A luau is a Hawaiian feast or party. The name 'luau' came from one of the dishes considered a delicacy consisting of taro leaves combined with chicken and baked in coconut milk
