Service industry – retail, restaurants and office type jobs don’t offer many transferable skills into firefighting
Jobs that involve hands on-where what you are doing is a benefit to you and your department when you join.<br>
slide5. Employment Driver –Driving an air brake equipped vehicle, performing pre-trip inspection and post trip inspections- checking slack adjusters and airbrake test. Making sure load is safe.
Small Engine - operating and maintaining small engines, these can include chain saws, lawn mowers, concrete saws, and generators. These engines are the same as you will use in the fire service showing a history and experience with these types of engines is and excellent transferable skill<br>
slide6. Employment Construction- Laborer – saws, hand tools, building knowledge, ladders
Red Seal – electrician, carpenter, plumber
Paramedic- There may be new law passed in Ontario allowing ff who are hired with a paramedic background to keep their cert.
