slide2. What is DEAR MAN? A strategy that will help us use our interpersonal skills in situations and relationships that are personal to us.
Basic assertiveness skills to aid in effective communication.
Helps ask for what you want and say no to things you do not want.<br>

slide4. D- Describe You do not like your math teacher, and you are frustrated with the grade he or she gave you on the exam.
Describe (to the teacher): “My paper says that I got a C- on the test.”<br>
slide5. E- Express Express your feelings about the results of the exam- how you feel on the inside.
Express: “I am frustrated with my grade because I studied for 4 days for that test. I looked it over, and I think some of my answers are correct.”<br>
slide6. A- Assert Ask your math teacher to go through the test with you.
Assert: “Would you please go through the problems I got wrong with me, so I can understand why my answers are not correct?”<br>
slide7. R- Reinforce Explain to your teacher why going through the exam with you will be good for you both.
Reinforce: “I would really appreciate you going through the exam with me, and it will be really helpful to me so I have a better understanding of the material.”<br>
slide8. M- (BE) Mindful Stay mindful and keep your focus on the objectives
Keep asking, saying no, or expressing your opinion over and over again.
Ignoring if the person attacks, threatens, or tries to change the subject.<br>
slide9. A- Appear Confident Looking at the other person or persons when you are talking to them and using a confident voice.<br>
slide10. N- Negotiate Be willing to give to get.
Negotiate: “I understand you are really busy, and I really need to go over my exam with you. What do you suggest we do so I can get some feedback on my exam?”<br>
slide11. Activity Break into pairs.
Come up with an example that you are open to sharing and does not involve someone else in the class.
You will take turns playing the role of the other person and once you have gone through each letter in the DEAR MAN strategy, you can switch roles.
Teacher will show an example.<br>
