FROM WORRIERS TO WARRIORS (Matthew 6:25-34) Introduction What is worry? To give way to anxiety or unease To allow one’s mind to dwell on difficulties Worry is “concern gone haywire” (T. Evans). What things are many people worried about today? High food prices High gas prices Mass shootings Lingering coronavirus War in Ukraine I. The Problem of Worry Jesus says three times: Do not worry (Matthew 6:25, 31, 34). Jesus’s followers worried because of “little faith” (Matthew 6:30). What is the difference between worry and concern? 1. “Worry immobilizes you.” 2. “Concern moves you to action” (NLT). Note the damaging effects of worry: 1. damage your health 2. disrupt your productivity 3. negatively affect your treatment of others 4. rob your day of joy 5. reduce your ability to trust in God II. The Panacea for Worry L – Look at birds & flowers (Matthew 6:26). S – Seek first the kingdom (Matthew 6:33). T – Take one day at a time (Matthew 6:34). P – Pray about everything (Philippians 4:6). E. C – Cast all your worries on Him (1 Pet. 5:7). Conclusion M. Jackson: “…not the most talented team, but the most together team.” Spiritual unity can help us defeat worry. Ecclesiastes 4:9-12; Galatians 6:2; Hebrews 10:24-25
