The Language of the Achievement Pathways We are all now Units – a Joey Scout Unit, Cub Scout Unit, Scout Unit, Venturer Scout Unit and Rover scout Unit
All Scouts can now be in Patrols – The Cub Scout Section now has Patrols instead of Sixes
Joey Scouts can now be Patrol Leaders and Assistant Patrol Leaders
The Language of theAchievement Pathways Units can have a Unit Leader. The Unit Leader can be an older Scout who can lead part or all of the Unit
Our Mob Council, Pack Council, Troop Council, Unit Council and Crew Council are now known as the Unit Council – their function is unchanged
Now, all Sections share a common language which is easier for the Scout to understand
C. Milestones Recognises a Scouts active participation, assisting and leading in a range of activities across the Unit’s diverse program
There are 3 Milestones each typically take 6-12 months to complete
The current Joey Scout Section award scheme doesn’t equate to Milestones like the Cub Scout Section Bronze Boomerang equates to Milestone One
Milestones – Core Features Requires the Unit to have a diverse program
A program based on activities the Joey Scouts want to do
A program cycle should have a balance of Challenge Areas
One Challenge Area per meeting for continual improvement

Which Milestone should a Joey Scout Start? Start at Milestone 1, if a:
The Joey Scout joins the Unit less than 1/3 of the way through the Joey Scout Section’s age range (for example, in the first year for a 3 year age range)
Start at Milestone 2, if the:
Joey Scout commences in the Unit between 1/3 to 2/3 through the Joey Scout Section’s age range (for example, in the second year for a three year age Section)
Transition to Milestone Options for Joey Scouts We’re after a smooth transition to Milestones and Program Essentials with ultimately all Joey Scouts fully transitioned by the end of 2020
Ground Breaker Group experience is that a sudden change is not recommended. A a smooth and quick transition as in Option 1 is highly recommended
Joey Scouts on the current award scheme have the following options when considering how they would like to transition to Milestones and remember, it’s the Joey Scouts choice
Joey Scouts on the current award scheme have the following options when considering how they would like to transition to Milestones and remember, it’s the Joey Scouts choice
32
Transition to Milestones - Option 1 The Joey Scout decides to finish their current Participation Scheme (Caring and Sharing Badge, Buddy Scheme Badge, Environment Challenge Badge or Adventure Challenge Badge)
At the completion of that Participation Scheme badge commence in the next Joey Scout Section age range level Milestone be it Milestone 1, Milestone 2 or Milestone 3.
At the completion of that Participation Scheme badge commence in the next Joey Scout Section age range level Milestone be it Milestone 1, Milestone 2 or Milestone 3.
33
Transition to Milestones - Option 2 The Joey Scout decodes to stay with the current Participation Scheme for a while but be transitioned fully by the end of the year.
This is acceptable however be mindful that current Participation Scheme badge supplies may be running short
34
Transition to Milestones - Option 3 The Joey Scout may choose to transition midway through their current Participation Scheme badge, that is, transition straight to Milestones.
The current Joey Scout Participation Scheme and Achievement Pathways are different which means we aren’t able to convert activities completed within a partially completed Participation Scheme to any Milestone equivalent.
35
Transition to Milestones Option 3 cont A common sense approach that will not disadvantage the Joey Scout.
As a guide:
Determine the Joey Scouts appropriate age range level Milestone be it Milestone 1, Milestone 2 or Milestone 3.
If a Joey Scout is halfway through their age range then it’s assumed they’re also halfway through the appropriate age range Milestone. If their a third way through their age range then it’s assumed they’re also a third way through the appropriate age range Milestone
36
Transition to Milestones Option 3 cont For example, if a Joey Scout is 6 ½ years old their age range Milestone is Milestone 2.
Being 6 ½ we will assume they’re also ½ way through the requirements for Milestone 2.
Therefore they will be given credit for 10 participates, 1 assist and 1 lead.
To achieve their Milestone 2 the Joey Scout will need to complete 10 more participates, 2 more assists and 1 more lead
Where completing Milestone 2 from the start requires 20 participates, 3 assists and 2 leads
37
Transition to Milestones - Option 3 cont If a Joey Scout is 7 ¼ years of age their age range Milestone is Milestone 3.
Being 7 ¼ we will assume they’re ¼ way through the requirements for Milestone 3.
Therefore they will be given credit for 4 participates, 1 assist and 1 lead.
To achieve their Milestone 3 the Joey Scout will need to complete 12 more participates, 3 more assists and 3 more leads
Where completing Milestone 3 from the start requires 16 participates, 4 assists and 4 leads
Outdoor Adventure Skills A Joey Scouts achievement is tracked by the number of Stage progressions across all Outdoor Adventure Skills. That is, progression from Stage 1 to Stage 2
The number of Stage progressions required for the peak award are counted from the time the Joey Scout joined the Joey Scout Unit
