slide5. WaterAid/ Sailendra Kharel WaterAid/ Mani Karmacharya Water facilities at school
Pupils at a secondary school in Lahan don’t have a supply of clean running water.

There is a borehole at the school, but the water is yellow and hazy. The pupils are unsure if it is safe to drink.

When students go to the nearby well which has clearer water (as you can see in the top photo), they are often late to class or miss school. They are not even confident that this water is safe. Lahan, Nepal
slide6. WaterAid/ Sailendra Kharel Toilets at school

There is only one functioning girls' toilet, but it gets very dirty and becomes all but unusable without running water for cleaning.

Children have to go home just to go the toilet, missing classes.

They don’t have decent toilets' or the clean water and soap needed to wash their hands afterwards.
slide7. Time and again, children across the country face the same challenges All of this impacts their ability to learn at school WaterAid/ Sailendra Kharel
slide9. WaterAid/ Mani Karmacharya WaterAid is working to support schools and communities in Lahan and throughout Nepal with access to clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene.

WaterAid is working alongside communities to install water systems with filtration units, together with drinking and handwashing stations.

The aim is to ensure children will have a supply of clean, running water in school. This will mean they can focus on their lessons without worrying about toilets or hygiene facilities.
slide12. WaterAid/ Mani Karmacharya Plenary: What can we do to help those without access to water and toilets in Nepal? We can do some fundraising for WaterAid.

TASK: What are the different ways that we could fundraise? See if you can come up with some ideas in pairs/groups of different things we could try!
