Introduction to this Assignment In this presentation, you are given a company problem scenario. You will be role playing the part of a teammate on a task force (i.e., one of three teammates) who will be creating a PowerPoint presentation to address the company initiative. Your “team” (i.e., you) using the contributions from your virtual teammates, will present the company CEO with a PowerPoint presentation addressing the assignment checklist items (i.e., deliverables), as seen on slide #7.
03
Step-by- Step Instructions (1) Read the scenario on slide #4.
(2) Review the headquarters’ information on slide #5.
(3) Go to slide #6 to read the team’s initial collaboration.
(4) Read through the required checklist items to be included in the PowerPoint presentation (slide #7).
(5) Review the research done by your teammates for the second task force meeting (slide #8) to successfully complete the assignment.
(6) Create your PowerPoint presentation, and submit it to the Dropbox.
Scenario You work for an organization which operates in the food products sector with six (6) regional North American offices (New York, Denver, Miami, San Francisco, Toronto, Canada. And Mexico City (D.F. in Mexico) and has more than 300 employees. Recently your company experienced unprecedented growth, and is about to launch their products into the European Union. They want to set up teams of 4 people each to address the marketing, promotion, product, and production aspects in each of seven (7) new markets. Your boss has tasked your team of three (you and two others) to first decide how you will create leaders amongst the team members since they will be coming not only from different departments, but different countries, and they will be working virtually. Your team will deliver a presentation to the CEO and board of directors on your findings within the month.
05
Scenario continued Headquarters' goals for the next year:
-Develop 7 teams of 4 (Marketing Manager, Promotion Director, Product Development Manager, and Production Supervisor) in EU markets in order to launch organic frozen food products into those markets.
-Create the 7 cohesive, effective teams of 4 that can launch the products successfully into the designated markets in a year and a half.
Additional pertinent information: Each team has a product manager who is predominantly a transactional leader by nature and one marketing manager who is predominantly a transformational leader.
Conversation Between the Three Task Force Members: Sylvia: It seems our goal is to decide how we are going to create leaders amongst these 4 person teams abroad.
Marty: What if we just let the teams decide the leader? I guess then the question becomes, how do we know the person can actually lead the team?
You: Well certainly the leader needs quite a bit of support. I gathered that was the whole point; that they want us to determine how the leadership process will be determined and why?
Marty: Absolutely! Also, they are operating virtually so there’s another consideration. I would be glad to do the research on virtual teams. Can someone else do the research on creating leaders to lead these teams?
Sylvia: Well, I can meet on Friday mornings anytime ET. I can do the research on resources. How about our third member? Can you do the research on the leadership aspect and make sure we address all the checklist items for the deliverables?
Continue on to the checklist and then on to the research done by Sylvia and Marty.
07
Checklist: Build on what has been contributed by Sylvia and Marty on the next slides to address the deliverables:
* Describe a process to develop leaders for the teams.
Address the transactional and transformational leadership styles.
* Explain how you will help the 7 teams of four members each, build synergy within.
* Explain how you will help these 7 team leaders set their individual team member goals in line with the corporate headquarters’ goals to enable team success.
* Provide the CEO with a minimum 10-slide PowerPoint presentation addressing all of the above items. Provide additional title and reference slides, and one short citation in current APA format and style.
Second Task Force Meeting Team members reported back at the next meeting of the task force with the following information:
Marty: I found some reading on virtual teams: Pullen (2016) Chapter 2 [see the PG Library]. We really should have them use a team agreement or charter. We already have a list of all the team members with their contact information.
Sylvia: Yes, the company has already contracted consultants in the EU for marketing, product development, and promotion. Then there are three production facilities that have already been contracted to produce and distribute the company’s products in all seven (7) markets.
