Status - The ToR for this project is granted by SEIAA – Karnataka on 18th June, 2020.
The area around the Plant site is agricultural and forest lands,
Ranjitpura village is located at 0.35km North
EIA/EMP studies are carried out with in 10km radius for the period Oct to Dec 2020.
For this project the Post and Telegraph, Bank, Hospital, Education, transportation facilities & Market is available at Sandur.
No Sanctuaries, National Parks are located within 10 km radius from the Plant area.
Kumarswamy Temple (listed under of ASI) is located with in 5.47km SW from the Plant area.
The Iron ore Leases of M/s. NMDC, M/s. JSW, M/s. SMIORE & few other are located within the study area.

From the central part of plant area there is gentle slope towards northeast & southwest.<br>
slide9. Land use at the end of plan period & at conceptual stage 10 Out of 103.3 acre area proposed for plant include 40.50 acre area earmarked for greenbelt and afforestation.<br>
slide10. 10 RAW MATERIAL REQUIREMENT The yearwise raw material requirement is given in the table shown below:<br>
slide11. 11 CRUSHING & SCREENING PLANT There will be 2 lines of crushing & screening plant of each 0.6MTPA capacity.

The low grade iron (Fe 52-55%) will be upgraded to 58-62% Fe.
It is totally wet technology for which 400m3 water is required per day.
89% of the water in circuit will be recovered and recycled.
This plant consist of scrubbers, cyclones, classifiers, screens, conveyors, hoppers, discharge bin etc.,

slide13. 13 COAL BASED DIRECT REDUCTION OF IRON (DRI) PLANT It is also called sponge iron plant.
There will be two rotary kiln of coal based DRI plant, each of 95 tons/day capacity.
In this plant the sponge iron (metallic product) is produced through direct deduction of iron ore in the solid stage.
The feed to this plant will be iron ore (9mm to 16mm), coal and limestone
The generated waste (dolochar) will be sold to the power plant, the generated gases will be used for power generation and ash will be utilized for bricks making.<br>
slide14. 14 WASTE HEAT RECOVERY BASED POWER PLANT The generated waste gases in DRI plant will be recirculated and used for power generation.
The capacity of WHRB power plant will be 5MW.
This plant consist of boilers, turbine, cooling tower etc.,
The power from this plant will be utilized power C&S, beneficiation plant, DRI plant and all other activities.

slide15. 15 SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT The common anticipated solid wastes are iron rich tailings from beneficiation plant, dolochar from rotary kilns, ash from bag filters and ESP’s used oil and domestic waste. The details of waste generation and mode of disposal is given in the table shown below:<br>
slide16. WATER REQUIREMENT Ground water is the major source of water.
Around 400 KLD of water is required for Beneficiation Plant.
Around 216 KLD of water is required for sponge iron Plant.
Around 216 KLD of water is required for power Plant.
About 24 KLD is required for dust suppression, domestic and afforestation, which shall be drawn from nearby bore wells.
Permission from concern Department to extract the water is under progress. 11<br>

The perusal of mean monthly temperature data shows that lowest & highest temperature of 15.0ºC and 35.0ºC.

slide25. The impact on surrounding due to plant operation, transportation and handling is assessed and the mitigative measures to reduce the impact are proposed.
Change in AIR QUALITY
The air quality deterote due to plant operation, handling and transportation of Ore as well as material.
CONTROL MEASURES :
Apart from road transport, the transportation of coal and other material will be preferably done by railway. All the roads will be asphalted.
All raw material handling areas will be connected with de-dusting system. The de-dusting units will be connected to stack having height of 30m.
Water sprinkling and dry fog type dust suppression system will be provided to control the dust from raw material yard and on roads.
The waste gas generated in DRI process will be re-circulated generate electricity through WHRB power plant.
Crushing and screening operations will be carried out in a closed area. All conveyers will be covered with G.I. sheets and bins will be totally packed and covered. 24 ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT & ENVIRONMENT MANAGEMENT PLAN<br>
slide26. The greenbelt will be developed around the plant to stop the carryover of dust.
Regular cleaning and maintenance of the air pollution control system will be carried out.
The height of the chimneys will be increased based on requirement.
Compound wall of 10 feet height will be constructed and wind barricates will be erected.
The vehicle carrying coal and iron ore will be closed or covered with tarpaulin.
Coal will be stored in a closed shed. While unloading dropping of the of coal/iron ore from height will be avoided.
Dust masks shall be provided to all workers.
The over filling of tippers and consequent spillage on the roads will be avoided.
To avoid the fugitive emissions from gas cutting activities, plasma cutters will be used instead of gas cutting systems.

slide31. 31 Impact of noise during construction phase
Increase in vehicular movements, material transport, loading and unloading activities, mechanical operations (hammering, digging, drilling, and fitting etc.,) movements of labouers etc., may increase noise levels.
CONTROL MEASURES NOISE LEVELS
Selection of low noise generation machinery / equipment.
Provision of rubber padding / noise isolators / silencers to modulate the noise generated by machinery/equipment, wherever possible.
All vehicles will be arranged silencers to minimize noise.
The high noise zones at site will be demarcated and provided with enclosures and barriers. Preventive maintenance of machinery equipment and vehicles.
All the vehicles will be regularly serviced and their speed will be maintained <25 kmph. They should avoid congestion during rush hours. Unnecessary idling will be avoided. All vehicles should only use filters to their exhaust before entering into the premises.
Board will be displayed to avoid unnecessary horning. ENVIRONMENT MANAGEMENT PLAN<br>
slide32. 32 Impact of noise during operation phase
The main noise generating sources in the proposed plant are crushing and screening, boilers, rotary kilns, turbine, cooling tower, material handling systems, process machineries etc. DG sets will be used during emergency only. The equipment shall be designed to comply with the stipulated limit of 85dB (A).
CONTROL MEASURES NOISE LEVELS
All rotating items will be well lubricated and provided with enclosures as far as possible to reduce noise transmission.
Vibration isolators will be provided to reduce vibration and noise wherever possible.
In general, noise generating items such as fans, blowers, compressors, pumps, motors etc. will be so specified as to limit their speeds to generate minimum noise levels.. All the blower house buildings will be made sound proof.
The areas where high noise levels persist continuously for a significant period of time shall be earmarked as High Noise Zone areas and accordingly it shall be displayed at appropriate places for warning employees. However necessary care shall be taken through Integrated Maintenance Management system to minimize the noise at these areas.
Provision of silencers will be made wherever possible. The insulation provided for prevention of loss of heat and personnel safety will also act as noise reducers.
Layouts of equipment’s foundations and structures will be designed considering the requirement of noise abatement. ENVIRONMENT MANAGEMENT PLAN<br>
slide33. 33 CONTROL MEASURES NOISE LEVELS
Central control room(s) provided for operation and supervision of plant & equipment will be air-conditioned, insulated and free from plant noise. Necessary enclosures will also be provided on the working platforms/areas to provide local protection in high noise level areas.
Engineering specifications shall be stipulated during tendering as a condition for each machinery/equipment to maintain noise level equal to or less than 85 dB(A) at 1 m distance.
Proper housekeeping to avoid excessive noise generation.
In case, where the operation of the equipment warrants the presence of operators in close proximity to equipment, the operators will be provided with necessary safety and protection equipment such as ear plugs, ear muffs etc.
Decreasing noise levels by development of green belt in and around the plant premises.
Noise levels at various areas shall be regularly monitored inside and outside the Plant area.
Silencers shall be used for transport vehicles and other machines of noise sources. Avoid use of horns except emergencies. ENVIRONMENT MANAGEMENT PLAN<br>
slide34. 35 Change in water quality
Impact on water during construction phase
During the construction phase, water will be required for civil works and for the domestic activities. Water requirement is needed mainly for preparation and mixing of concrete; cooling of construction equipment, dust suppression etc.
CONTROL MEASURES
Water is required for constructional activities. However, the construction phase is very limited time and need only 25 KLD. The number of labors needed during construction phase is very limited (approximately 40 no’s). The water needed for their drinking and sanitary facilities is estimated to be around 2 KLD only
Adequate arrangements will be made to ensure proper drainage of wastewater from the construction sites, so that such waters do not form stagnant pools nor aggravate soil erosion.
The waste water during construction will contain only suspended impurities. This water would be passed through settlement ponds and recycled for use in gardening and other non-consumption activities.

slide35. 36 Change in water quality
Impact on water during operation phase
The Water is a natural resource and usage of water is a negative impact on environment. The estimated wastewater from the proposed plant activities such as beneficiation of ore, cooling tower, boiler blow down, softener back wash and domestic purpose will be 856KLD.
CONTROL MEASURES
As a part of conservation or minimization of water usage Air cooled condensers will be provided.
The wastewater generated will be treated to meet on land disposal for green belt development.
Run-off water from the raw material storage yard will be routed through garland drains to catch pits to settle out suspended solids. The clear water will be discharged to natural drains.
No hazardous chemicals shall be used in thickener of beneficiation plant.
Rainwater harvesting pits will be constructed to recharge ground water. The water harvested from rain harvesting pits will be utilized for green belt development and dust suppression. ENVIRONMENT MANAGEMENT PLAN<br>
slide36. 37 Change in soil quality
Impact on soil during construction phase
During construction phase, there will be more vehicular movements and cause soil erosion, dust and gaseous pollution. The open surface area will be reduced due to built up.
CONTROL MEASURES
The materials brought for construction will be stored covered with plastic/tarpaulin sheets and all the discarded materials will be disposed of regularly and shall keep the place neatly.
Care should be taken during construction phase dust will not spread into nearby agriculture lands by covering with tarpaulins.
Water spraying shall be carried out on the roads inside the plant where vehicles carrying materials.
The surface enriched soil removed during foundation should be dumped separately and shall be used in filling the low lying areas and development of green belt.
Also care should be taken spillage of cement, paints, oils by covering the respective places with plastic covers.
Washings should be carried out in the identified areas where surface is cemented and directed into proper channels. ENVIRONMENT MANAGEMENT PLAN<br>
slide37. 38 Change in soil quality
Impact on soil during operation phase
Vehicular movements can cause soil erosion and also cause wind prone particles pollution.
Soil erosion may be caused due to run off from the plant that leads to removal of soil’s organic matter and fine soil particles and finally destroys productivity of land.
CONTROL MEASURES SOIL LEVELS
Dust emissions sources due to vehicular movement will be sprayed by water.
Increase in stack height with high efficiency control system will reduce the concentration of particulates in ambient air. Care shall be taken that dust will not spread to nearby agricultural fields.
Parking areas shall be identified. Unnecessary idling of vehicular movements shall be restricted. Vehicle speed shall be restricted to < 15 kmph.
Other than green belt, all the empty places will be developed with grasses, herbs and shrubs to bind soil particles during dry seasons.
Materials handling, storage and transportation will be done carefully and designated impervious storage area for raw materials, fuels etc. will be provided.

The tailing will be stored as cake and these are directly salable to the cement industry.
The Silpaulin Plastic Film shall be placed in the tailing pond to avoid percolation to ground water.
Provision is made to stock tailing cakes in the plant area. Before stacking the tailing cakes, Silpaulin Plastic Film shall be spread in the earmarked area to avoid percolation.
A retaining wall shall be constructed all around the foot of the tailing dump. 38<br>

There is a possibility from the proposed plant activities will cause damage to the agricultural land, health to nearby residents, water scarcity and economy.
Positive impact :-
The proponents are going to use more recent available technology (like recirculation of waste gases and total utilization of solid waste) to reduce the emissions.
The proposed unit will provide 239 no. of employment opportunities and the preference will be given to local people. Skill training will be given to local people, to generate more employment opportunities to the locals.
0.5 % of the capital cost (Rs.104 laks) is earmarked for CER activities and action plan.
The expressed views during public hearing will be taken in to consideration while investing money.
Compensation will be given to the nearby farmers having agricultural land in the surroundings if any production loss due to industrial activities.
The medical facilities for the surrounding villages will be provided by conducting health camp.<br>

There is a possibility from the proposed plant activities will cause damage to the agricultural land, health to nearby residents, water scarcity and economy.

Positive Impact :-
The schools maintenance shall be done and the students will be supported by providing books periodicals and scholarships.
The school / college going students will be provided regular transport facilities.
The water will be provided to Ranjitpura village.
Hygiene/Employment Oriented Training will be conducted for localities and youngsters.
Support and training (computer and stiching) will be given to 25 girls from Ranjitpura village and school.<br>

During construction sanitation, drinking water, fuel, restroom etc. facilities will be provided to the constructional laborers as well as to the casual workers.
Constructional activities will be carried out during day time only, so that there will not be any disturbance to nearby habitants during night time.
The project area is well connected with road networks and hence issue of traffic and transport infrastructure is not envisaged.
