effort.% of TV records to match/registerPreparation effort of matching and registration of TV records is higher. Resolution

For bundles/ compilations, please validate with the Content Partner and EIDR on how to proceed. Theatrical shorts or TV Series?Register as anthologies to catch instances when others try to register the individual cartoons as stand-alone shorts; should be no Seasons on Theatrical Series

Example 2

Challenge

Resolution

How to register multiple segments in a episode? How to register pilot/unaired series pilots?

Okay to register episodes outside a season; often done for pilots/specials. As of 2.0, EIDR supports ‘0’ for pilot.

For bundles/ compilations, validate with the Content

Partner &

EIDR on how to proceed.

Example 3

Challenge

Resolution

Multiple talents for a series, which

to select? Consider talent who has participated in more than ~80% episodes; otherwise take the production company details; if possible to gather talent, episodes wise, it is the most accurate registration

Best Practices:

Data Preparation & Transformation

This is the most important

phase

of the project. Extreme care and focus is required to ensure data accuracy. It is highly recommended to spend the maximum time to correct the data before registrations.Records should be consistent in nature. The naming convention, date formats, title formats/language, etc. should be consistent for minimal transformation effort.Involve EIDR teams to participate in the original data collection and preparationBreak large data sets into subprojects, submitting highest quality data firstBefore the start of the project the following should be planned and documentedData Quality Check ProcessData transformation rules

Missing data guidelines

Review cases

in which data will be researched (and by whom) (e.g., talent) vs.

provisional/undetermined (

e.g., country of origin

)

1/16/2014

Slide26

Best

Practices, cont.

Registration

Be the first to register a title.

Register in sandbox environment first as cleaning up data after registration in production takes several days for large datasets.Records requiring manual review by EIDR Operations may not be resolved until the next business day

Pre-Registration Matching

Include alternate IDs in the matching process to increase the matching score.

Establish a data escalation ,

resolution, ownership

&

notification process

.Gap records should be spot-checked and reviewed to ensure that they did not fail to match due to undetected data quality issues.1/16/2014EIDR Confidential

Remove all the dates from the titles

Research the correct title

Research

the alternate titles for the original titles Convert all the titles to a proper case Identify the correct English title for a foreign title for registration.Series, Season & EpisodesResearch the correct Series and Season information for the episodes.Organize and align the data in proper hierarchy i.e. Series, Season and Episodes Validate the running order for each episodeConfirm the episode names especially for Animated Series. Multiple shorts/segments are combined into 1 episode. Be clear on how to register shorts.

Talent

Arrange all actors and directors in their appropriate

sequence for matching and registration

Ensure

popular talents are used for Matching and Registration

Release Dates

& Runtime

Validate and confirm the correct Theatrical

Release Date.

Do not use Physical (DVD/Blu-Ray) Release dates.

EPISODIC REGISTRATION

Slide30

Rovi Seeding and

EIDR Criteria: Episodic Content

Program details and credits are provided to Rovi by Broadcast TV and Cable Network station contacts via program schedulesOnce received, these programs become a part of the Rovi program databaseEach month, Rovi runs a process that scans their program database for new records that will meet EIDR’s criteriaAs a result, approximately 2K records are then added to the Registry each month (over the last 5 months, approximately 60% of these records were episodic in nature)In consultation with EIDR, Rovi is currently excluding the following types of programs from seeding:Local Origination recordsNews programsSporting events

Slide31

Rovi Episodic Results

The following fields are required for Rovi to seed episodic content:Title and/or Episode NumberAssociated Org

DurationRovi also provides at the time of registration the following additional info to promote record completeness, when available:Directors and Actors (at the Series level)House Sequence (as Alternate Number)Early registration by RoviAbout 25% of episodic content that Rovi registers has future air dates, which can be as far as 2-3 months in advance. 1/16/2014

Slide32

Promoting Registration of

Episodic Content

Records that do not meet EIDR’s criteria for inclusion, may become eligible at a later dateAs additional required details become available for a program record, Rovi updates their database and when the next seeding process runs, those records would become eligible for inclusionFurther reading on EIDR’s registration criteria can be found in the “Best Practices Guide” at http://eidr.org/technology/Including EIDR required fields in program schedules delivered to Rovi will help promote earlier registration of contentWhile early registration is useful, episodic content is also subject to change (e.g., airdates may change due to world events; series may be cancelled)Content creators and broadcasters are also encouraged to register their own content

Our prefered workflow utilizes EIDR to automate as much of the workflow as possible. EIDR should sufficiently define data relationships and provides a lookup service to traverse from one level of the scheme to another should we need to.

Questions

How is the 2nd level EIDR defined across the studios? Localization for edit (violence) vs. localization on language (subs/dubs)?

Example: French version where video isn’t edited, but dubbing card added. Is it new version EIDR?Are there opportunities to use a 3rd level EIDR in the Digital HD space?Creating a minimum set:Drafting on video spec standardization efforts (EMA) and defacto standards (iTunes ProRes)Using most internationally-friendly cuts that aren’t localized.

An Introduction to T3Media

It’s a “cross-firewall” world where many organizations need to collaborate around metadata

Our Interest in EIDR is at least in part to leveraging it to disambiguate disparate sources of metadataOur Interest goes well beyond UltraVioletWe hope to help EIDR and other member companies and constituents better leverage our platform and their metadata though the “EIDR Bridge”

Slide74

It’s early days….. We haven’t been involved with efforts like Ultra Violet

Some initial thoughts.. Company Outing to Visit Cable Labs in Denver – We are in Denver “Get the Gift Card”Every title / program we ingest or process, we will check EIDR to see if registered. If not we will then provide the registry servicePresent EIDR data back to the customer and partners within our UI / APIProvide Metadata service to support gaps / deltas in their Master Data Records
