5. ACADEMIC PROGRAMSAP Capstone Diploma ProgramAP Capstone is a diploma program from the College Board. It is based on a two year-long AP courses: AP Seminar and AP Research. AP Capstone is designed to facilitate the development of independent research, collaborative teamwork, and communication skills that are necessary to succeed in college courses. It cultivates curious, independent, and collaborative scholars and prepares them to make logical, evidence-based arguments. Student who complete the two–year program can earn one of the two different AP Capstone awards, which are valued by colleges across the United States and around the world. Waltrip Stats:One of the few HISD highs schools to offer this elite program Junior / Senior level course, but open to Sophomores Application based and is limited to 35 studentsAP Capstone requires 4 AP classes of students choice

6. ACADEMIC PROGRAMSAP Capstone Diploma Program Three great reasons to pursue AP Capstone Diploma:1. College readiness. College readiness. College readiness. Students learn to self-pace and write evidence-based scholarly papers using peer-reviewed journals following strict citation formats.2. Presentation skills. Students become incredible presenters and develop confidence in their public speaking. In research, the students become leading experts on their topics, and in some cases the foremost leading expert on ground-breaking inquiries.3. Critical and creative thinking skills. In Seminar, students work collaboratively to research a social problem and develop a new solution. In Research, students uncover missing links in the field and have to design their own studies in order to fill that gap in knowledge. This creates students that learn for themselves and are active participants in acquiring knowledge, as opposed to passive receivers. Capstone students seek out the information and create solutions.
