Slide2

Presentation Outline

Purpose

Amendments to the Content Overview for the Phase;

Amendments to the Annual Teaching Plan;

Amendments School Based Assessment (SBA)

Conclusion

Slide3

1. Purpose

To mediate the amendments of the trimmed and re-organised 2020 Annual Teaching Plan including School Based Assessment for

EGD, Grades

10-12

for implementation in June 2020 as stipulated in

Circular

S2 of 2020.

To ensure that

meaningful teaching proceeds

during the remaining teaching time as per the revised school calendar.

To assist teachers with

guided pacing and sequencing

of curriculum content and assessment.

Slide4

1. Purpose (continued)

To enable teachers to

cover the essential core content /skills

in each grade within the available time.

To assist teachers with

planning

for the different forms of

assessment

.

To ensure learners are

adequately prepared

for the

subsequent year/s

in terms of content, skills, knowledge, attitudes and values.

Summary: Amendment to the weighting of content topics

ENGINEERING GRAPHICS AND DESIGN

Grade 10:

With the removal of ‘true inclinations and true shapes’, ‘1-point perspectives’ and ‘electrical diagrams’,

±27% of the remaining content has been removed

.

The

removed content

also

constitutes

±40% of the content of Paper 1, i.e.

±20% for the combined content of the Final/Promotional Grade 10 Examination

.

Grade 11:

With the removal of ‘transition pieces’, ‘square screw thread’ and ‘electrical diagrams’,

±18% of the remaining content has been removed

.

The removed content also constitutes

±14% of the content of Paper 1 and ±4% of Paper 2, i.e.

±9% for the combined content of the Final/Promotional Grade 11 Examination

.

Grade 12:

As there is currently

no amendments to the Grade 12 content

, there is also

no amendment to the Grade 12 weightings.

Summary: Revised Programme of Assessment

Motivation for retaining Course Drawings (CDs):

An

essential ‘teaching and learning’ component

of EGD is

‘assessment for learning’

, which requires of learners do as many tasks as possible, of which most should be informally evaluated or assessed so that gaps can be identified, and appropriate remedial actions implemented.

Although only addressing some of the required ‘assessment for learning’ requirements

,

CDs will at least ensure that all the learners will be given constructive feedback on some of their Daily Developmental Exercises (DDEs)/tasks

.

As EGD is both a knowledge and application/skill-based subject

,

many DDEs

, on the content of each topic and in accordance with the Annual Teaching Plan (ATP),

must be done on a regular (daily) basis.

From this essential developmental process,

various DDEs should be formally assessed and recorded

as part of the programme of compulsory SBA tasks.

These assessed and recorded DDEs will then be referred to as CDs.

Slide31

Summary: Revised Programme of Assessment

Cont. of

Motivation for retaining Course Drawings (CDs):

Some of the purposes of the CDs

(As described in the CAPS):

To provide evidence that the prescribed content has been adequately covered;

To provide evidence that ALL the learners have been assessed and given sufficient feedback on their acquired knowledge and skills on common tasks of each topic;

Some of the most relevant requirements for CDs

(As described in the CAPS):

The CDs must come from the normal developmental teaching and learning process of EGD and should therefore

be some of the regular (daily) tasks, i.e. the DDEs;

The recorded CD mark should address all, or most of, the grade-specific content of the topic and it must be of an appropriate higher order of complexity for the specific grade. However, more than one task may be used to obtain the recorded CD mark;

To ensure that all the CDs comply with test and examination requirements and standards, all CDs, with the exception of the analytical exercises and the perspective drawing(s), must be tasks that are completely redrawn;

It is important to note that the

CDs are not tests

.

Slide32

Summary: Revised Programme of Assessment

Moderation of EGD SBA tasks

The

pre-

and

post-moderation

of SBA task must still be implemented where required!

Moderation of Course Drawings (CDs):

As CDs should be randomly selected from the daily tasks,

referred to as Daily Developmental Exercises (DDEs),

the

pre-moderation of CDs is not a prerequisite

. The

post-moderation of ALL aspects of CDs

, i.e. if the tasks met ALL the requirements as well as the assessment of ALL the tasks,

must however be conducted at ALL the required levels

, i.e. School (

SMT

), District and Provincial.

Moderation of Examination Papers:

ALL Examination Papers

, i.e. the Final/Promotional Grade 10 & 11 papers as well as the Preparatory Grade 12 papers,

must at least be pre-moderated at the level it was set

, i.e. at School (

SMT

) level if set at school, Provincial level if set by the Province etc.,

and post-moderated at ALL the required levels

, i.e. School (

SMT

), District and Provincial.

COVID-19 SAFETY GUIDELINES for EGD

Make sure your classroom is clean and hygienic.

Arrange desks/drawing tables so that learners are at least 1½ m apart. If impossible, plastic or Perspex screens can be used as dividers to separate learners.

Surfaces (e.g. desks/drawing tables) and objects (e.g. telephones, keyboards) need to be wiped with disinfectant regularly.

Promote regular and thorough hand-washing by all involved.

Place saniti

s

ing hand rub dispensers in prominent places around the classroom and ensure that they are working correctly and are regularly refilled.

Display posters promoting hand-washing – ask your local public health authority for these or look on www.WHO.int.

COVID-19 SAFETY GUIDELINES for EGD

Promote good respiratory hygiene in the classroom. Good respiratory hygiene prevents the spread of COVID-19.

Display posters promoting respiratory hygiene.

Ensure that paper tissues are available in your classroom, for those who develop a runny nose or cough, along with closed bins for hygienically disposing of the waste.

Continue communicating and promoting the message that people need to stay at home even if they have just mild symptoms of COVID-19 by making use of social media group chats.

Display posters with these message in your classroom.

When learners have to work on computers (CAD), partitions or screens must be used.

Open windows and doors whenever possible to make sure the venue is well ventilated.

After assessment has taken place

:

Retain the names and contact details of all learners for at least one month. This will help public health authorities to trace learners who may have been exposed to COVID-19 should one or more learners become ill shortly after the assessment.

If someone was isolated as a suspected COVID-19 case after the assessment, the teacher must inform all the learners.
