IT Environmental Scan (Q4 FY17) IT Mission and Vision Statement Strategic GoalsQ1 FY18 Objectives and InitiativesKanban Methodology

The initial assessment of our IT capabilities identified many opportunities Cybersecurity Audit Staff Survey Architecture Assessment Alignment to Organizational Goals Existing Architecture Does Not Support a Distributed and Mobile Collaborative Workforce Network infrastructure investments needed in HQ and all Field Offices Audio visual infrastructure in all locations not meeting business needs Infrastructure not tuned to the needs of telecommuters and road warriors The Staff’s Clear Priority for Investment is for New CRM Capabilities Currently 3 different platforms are used across the organization. Revenue pipeline projections require significant manual manipulation, leading to issues with data consistency and latency. Current Capabilities Focused on Preventative Measures, But Good Cybersecurity Requires Resiliency No practiced capabilities to detect, respond to, or recover from a cyber attack – we make it up as we go. Q4 FY17 supplement investment in IT addressed some immediate needs, with improvements already being felt. IT Team Focused on Supporting Internal Customers vs. Advancing the Mission Primary focus on network operations and helpdesk support Bandwidth for implementing new solutions was limitedTeam defined its primary orientation to be technology-centric rather than data-centric * Self assessment conducted May 2017 using the NIST Cybersecurity Framework Source: Based on all staff survey taken 18-21 April, 2017. 81 responses received. IT Mission and Vision Statement Environmental Scan Make Our Operations Simple and Resilient Share Our Strength’s technology operations have grown organically since the organization’s inception. To increase reliability, performance, and security, we will implement a holistic technical architecture and regularly refresh the organization’s foundational technologies, including its network architecture, employees’ phones and computers, conference rooms, and critical data stores. Simplify Working With Anyone From Anywhere The mobile and dispersed nature of Share Our Strength’s operations demand that employees be able communicate and collaborate while in the office, at home, or on the road. We will implement technologies and business process that minimize the friction created by geographic separation. Enable New Discovery By Sharing Data Responsibly Studies show corporate data doubles every 18 months. Share Our Strength is no exception. As we continue to learn about our donors, corporate sponsors, and programmatic partners, not to mention the nature of hunger in every state, we will deploy technologies that facilitate building greater situational awareness for both our revenue teams and program teams, with an emphasis on tools that highlight facts and relationships not already known. Foster Customer Engagement with Our Brands, Programs, Partners and Each Other Previously Share Our Strength’s IT operations focused primarily on empowering Share Our Strength’s employees. As we reposition our team’s value proposition from providing basic network support to serving as a strategic partner, we will collaborate with both the revenue and program teams to deploy innovative and interactive technologies to enhance our customers’ on-line and event experiences. Strategic Goals Q1 FY17 Objectives and Initiatives Build a Public Image as a Technology Leader Society’s ever increasing data literacy raises expectations for organizations such as Share Our Strength to show measureable impact, while simultaneously raises concerns regarding Share Our Strength’s cybersecurity. We strive to make the culture and capabilities of the IT Team a positive differentiator in the marketplace of attention, dollars, and talent, and will actively seek public recognition of our successes. The IT Team utilizes a Kanban strategic planning process to maximize agility and to ensure it stays focused on the organization’s most critical needs at all times. What is Kanban? Kanban is a method for visually managing work, and balancing demand with available resources. Team members "pull" work as capacity permits, rather than work being "pushed" on them without regard for what else is already being worked. Why is important for our strategy? Every quarter the IT Team will revisit the pool of potential initiatives, and re-prioritize the list based on input from organizational leadership and any updates to our environmental scan. Then, based on available capacity, the team will “pull” into their work queue the highest priority initiatives to be worked for the next 90 days. This will ensure that the team stays focused on the organization’s most pressing needs, and does not make promises that it can not keep. Strategic goals and objectives will also be re-validated annually to ensure the our overall direction remains true with the rest of the organization’s strategic alignment.
