principles for effective practical faith

James 1:6-8But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. 7For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord,

8

being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.Slide3

Who is the faith hero first mentioned in this chapter? What does he do in faith? (v. 4

)

By faith

Abel

offered to God a more excellent sacrifice

than Cain, through which he obtained witness that

he was righteous

, God testifying of his gifts; and through it he being dead still speaks.Slide4

What happened to Enoch? How did he please God? (v. 5

)

5

By faith

Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death

, “and was not found, because God had taken him”; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that

he pleased God

Genesis 5:21-24 (NKJV)

21

Enoch lived sixty-five years, and begot Methuselah.

22

After he begot Methuselah,

Enoch walked with God three hundred years

, and had sons and daughters.

23

So all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five years.

24

And

Enoch walked with God

; and he

was

 not, for God took him.Slide6

Faith that pleases God does

things according to Hebrews

:

Hebrews

But without faith

it is

 impossible to please

Him,

for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and

that

He is a rewarder of those who

diligently seek Him

.Slide8

principles for effective practical faith

Pleasing faith comes actively before God

— “those who diligently seek Him."

Diligent means

to investigate, crave, or demand

. It is an insistent coming.

Diligence is always rewardedSlide9

principles for effective practical faith

Jesus taught such diligence in aggressive seeking attitude in prayer:Slide10

principles for effective practical faith

The Lord doesn't want you to think He's asleep, or uncaring about your predicament. However, He does want you to come before Him unashamedly insistent!

(“Persistent"

in v. 8) comes from two Greek words, meaning "without bashfulness

.“

Boldness

is an attitude of strong

confidence in God

, such that godly things are said and done openly without fear of the consequences

.

Tenacity is the

quality or fact of being very determined;

determination

Don’t take know for an answerSlide11

Hebrews 4:16
