What are the Global Goals?Slide3Slide4
What are the challenges?
Business has a vital role to play. They will be the engines of change however they will also have to change themselves to survive. Delivering the goals will depend on collaboration and co-creation across the global economy.
Individual nations must therefore be prepared to pool national interests to recognise the global public interest and act together with business and civil society to succeed
.We must all be prepared to deliver the bad news as well as the good concerning progress on the goals in the public domain. Rather than only celebrating success we must be prepared to learn from our mistakes and adapt. Slide5
So what’s the role of the profession?Slide6
The role of the accountancy profession
The
accountancy profession
has
a presence across all sectors of business and public
life and has a responsibility in achieving the 169 targets of the Goals by enabling them to be measured and trusted
ICAEW passionately believes that the profession must step up to this responsibility to serve the public interest, demonstrate its relevance and ensure that real change happens Slide7
The role of the accountancy profession
There are four main reasons for being confident the profession can do this:
We have a history of coming together to serve the public interest by creating public goods in the form of common bases of measurement, reporting and assurance
The profession has a substantial role to play in aligning private and public sector accounting and national income accounting
The profession is at the forefront of applying new technology, which will play a vital role in achieving the Goals
The profession has a distinguished record of building strong local institutions and they will be necessary to the achievement of the GoalsSlide8
