When to stop CPR

The scene becomes unsafe

The victim shows signs of life

An AED becomes available and is ready to use

Another trained rescuer arrives and takes over

Unconscious Choking

Adult

The most common cause of obstruction in an unconscious person is the tongue.

The care for an unconscious choking adult is very similar to the skill of adult CPR. Slide5

Chest compressions are used to help force air from the victim’s lungs to dislodge a foreign object.

Steps of CPR

Check the scene and victim (Are you ok?)

Call 911

Lift Chin and listen for 10 seconds

30 compressions

2 Breaths

Repeat for 2 minutes, then check for breathing again.
