The South lost the war and had to rejoin the Union
However maybe their worst feat was losing their slavesThe South began to struggle mightily due to the lack of industrialization and lack of workers to help their plantations and agriculture

Following the Union’s win in the war there were many changes including the freedom of slaves, their new rights as citizens and the amendments that granted it to them

Newly freed Slaves Struggle to Find Work
With a surplus of newly freed slaves many have a hard time making money to buy land and support a family
So most of them returned to the plantations to cut deals and get a job Adele Alston was a plantation owner who gave former slaves a job to make little profit, and keep excess food
The slaves didn’t have places to store their money and Alston had most of the benefits Working contract designed between both sides wasn’t
