Action and Discussion: Phil discussed his attendance of the RMPBS Board of Directors meeting on March 10. Phil prese nted to the Board of RMPBS what we do, why we do it and how we do it. Phil reported on the volunteer survey just completed by the Restructure Task Force of RMPBS. The process of doing the report and the report itself is a good example of what we should at tempt to do in surveying our volunteers at KUVO. Elizabeth Mayer, Director of Community Engagement & Audience services at RMPB discussed the study of the Restructure Task Force appointed by the Volunteer Board of RMPBS. The purpose of the study was to loo k at improving the volunteer experience at RMPBS and how to best serve, engage and retain volunteers. Staff is generally satisfied with volunteers. Common concerns of staff include the lack of time to train volunteers and the availability of volunteers t o help. Discussion followed about how KUVO can do such a similar study. KUVO has about 350 volunteers. Owen Hutchinson , Development Manager, Vail Jazz Foundation was introduced and he gave a brief history of Vail Jazz and described the upcoming seaso n. Vail jazz presents 60 events a year which in total have over 25,000 attendees. It has a prominent presence at the very popular Vail Farmer s’ Market and Art Festival. Vail Jazz has a dynamic inte

raction with the Vail Valley Schools and a discussion fol lowed about jazz education in the schools . A gala to benefit Vail Jazz will be on July 13. A big band and Curtis Stigers will celebrate the 100 years of Frank Sinatra. The key question in the presentation and following discussion was how to link KUVO wi th Vail Jazz so that both can benefit. Owen asked if the Vail Jazz Foundation can get a presence at the upcoming Five Points Jazz Festival. The Board asked how can KUVO get a presence at jazz events held in Vail. The benefits of having booths manned by volunteers at both Vail and Denver events was discussed as was the possibility of a Vail Jazz event being broadcast on KUVO . The link between KUVO and Vail Jazz has significant opportunities to strengthen. Phil suggested that the profile of the CAB be more prominently displayed on the KUVO web page so that the listening community will have an eas ier access to express the ir thoughts and comments about KUVO. Carolyn reported on the Outreach committee. Carolyn met with Jeannette Smallwood, the Digital Co ordinator of RMPBS on how to best interact with listeners. The marketing team at KUVO is working on the celebration of KUVO’s 30 th anniversary. Ideas being worked on include: the thirty best up and coming jazz mus i cians, the thirty best jazz songs, etc. Phil brought up the idea that it would be nice to have a semi - annual open forum for discussion about KUVO and RMPBS which would be open to the community. A potential member for the CAB, Max Colin Paley, was presented via his application and resume. Given his enthusiasm, his youth and his music background it was agreed that he be invited to the next board meeting before a decision is made to offer him board membership. The composition of th e board was briefly discussed. It was noted that board should strive to add more diversity to its membership. Next meeting : The next meeting is scheduled for April 21 at KUVO. The meeting was adjourned at 9:40am
