THE ELEMENTS OF MUSIC

FORM – musical structure

EXPRESSION – dynamics /volume, tempo/speed

HARMONY – 2+ pitches sounded together

MELODY – the “

singable

RHYTHM – long/short sounds combined with moments of silence

TEXTURE – the layering of sounds

TIMBRE – (TAM-

Have students complete math problems using any operation.Slide4

SCIENTIFIC SOUND WAVES

Sound waves are measured in Hertz

Create or play recordings of various sounds

You can have stations of various objects (Ex. Cups, water bottles with beads, straws, pots, pans)

Students can create hypothesis as to weather objects will be low or high, pitched or un-pitched.

Students can experiment with the objects and chart their findings. Rule of thumb – the smaller the object/instrument the higher the sound. The larger the object/instrument the lower the sound.Slide5
