Photosynthesis. – process of capturing light . . energy. from the sun to convert water & CO. 2. . . into oxygen and high energy carbohydrates . (food, ex: glucose, starch, & other sugars). Lab. 5: Photosynthesis. Lab. 5: Photosynthesis. Leaves float in water due to presence of air (air spaces) in the leaf. . How does one get them to sink?. Lab. 5: Photosynthesis. Put leaf discs under vacuum . Define Photosynthesis. The process by which plants manufacture (make) carbohydrates from raw materials using energy from the light.. Word and Chemical equation of Photosynthesis. 6CO. 2. + 6H. 2. O . Photosynthesis. OB48. Describe, using a word equation, how plants make their own food through photosynthesis. . OB49. Show that starch is produced by a photosynthesising plant. . OB50. Investigate the growth response of plants to . 1. ENERGY AND LIFE. OBJECTIVES: 8.1. Explain where plants get the energy they need to produce food.. Describe the role of ATP (adenosine . triphosphate. ) in cellular activities.. 2. Energy is the ability to do work.. Leaf Disc Assay. F Block. Photosynthesis Lab. . An Educational Slide Created By Squade. . (Andy, Alex, Colin, Jordyn). Summary of Findings . In this lab, the effects of plant photosynthesis were investigated by comparing the rates of photosynthesis of two plants, spinach and kale. The rate of photosynthesis was measured the number of leaf cutouts on the surface per minute. These floating leaf cutouts show that oxygen, a product of photosynthesis is produced. We found that the rate of photosynthesis for the spinach leaves was 8.6 cutouts per minutes, 1.4 less than that of the kale leaves (10 cutouts per minute.) This difference could be a result the different amounts of light absorbing chlorophyll present in each leaf, or a difference in vascular tissue sizes, which may affect the plant’s ability to absorb water for photosynthesis.. Lauren . Kendle. Winter Ecology. Spring 2012. Background Information. An analysis of 60 species indicated that there were photosynthetic processes in the . bark. Aspen Trees had the highest level of bark chlorophyll . Leaf Disc Assay. A Block. Spinach (Control). Arugula. Number of Discs Floating. Time. (seconds). Number of . Discs Floating. Time. Oxygen is a by-product (leftover, waste product). Energy now stored in the sugar. Photosynthesis. . converts light energy from the sun into chemical energy in the form of organic compounds through a series of reactions known as . biochemical pathways. . . Autotrophs. . use energy from sunlight or from chemical bonds in inorganic substances to make organic compounds. . Photosynthesis . process used by plants using light energy to create sugar (glucose, C. 6. H. 12. O. 6. ) from carbon dioxide (CO. 2. ) and water (H. 2. O). oxygen gas (. O. 2. ) is produced as a waste product and the light energy used is stored as chemical energy. Photosynthesis. Photosynthesis. is the process by which plants, some . bacteria use . the energy from sunlight to produce sugar and starches ……which . cellular respiration. converts into . ATP. The light-dependent reaction. The light-independent reaction. Required practical 7: . Use of chromatography to investigate the pigments isolated from leaves of different plants, . eg. , leaves from shade-tolerant and shade-intolerant plants or leaves of different colours..
