Step 1: Form A Team

What a Team is…

Partners

Leaders

Influencers

Motivators

Celebrators

Supporters

Collaborators

What a Team is Not…

There to do all the thinking for you

Your own personal slaves

A place to kvetchSlide8

Step 1: Form A Team

Anyone with a permanently negative attitude

Anyone who complains LOUDLY and A LOT

Anyone who only wants to complain and doesn’t want to actively be part of the solution

Anyone who isn’t around enough to what going (or not going) on

Anyone who isn’t actively involved in the congregation at large

Who does NOT belong on your Team?Slide9

Step 1: Form A Team

Observe people.

Ask around!

Listen for recommendations from others

Choose 7-8 people, in addition to yourself (depending on size of your congregation or ministry area, you could do 4-5 people)

Who do I recruit?Slide10

Who might you ask?

1

After this the Lord appointed seventy others and sent them on ahead of him in pairs to every town and place where he himself intended to go.

2

He said to them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest

.” Luke 10:1-2Slide11

Step 2: Mission and Vision StatementsSlide14

Step 2: Vision and Mission Statements

“Mission” – a broad picture of who you are and what you exist to do. A sentence or short paragraph which reflects your organization’s purpose, identity, values, and principles aims.

“Vision” – a succinct statement of the big picture of your ministry’s purpose. A broad, aspirational image of the future.Slide15

Step 2: Mission and Vision StatementsSlide16

Step 3: Evaluate Ministry ProgramsSlide17

Sub-total

Ministry Programs

Vision Statement

.

Across the top of the X axis, write in each column the name of a ministry program (

ie

. VBS, Sunday school, mid-week evening activities, etc.).

.

Down the left side of the Y axis, write one of each of the imperatives (

ie

. Meet God, Find Life, Make Friends, etc.).

.

Work through each ministry program, evaluating by each of the imperatives, and rate them on a scale from 0-3.

0—not at all

1—hardly at all, needs major improvement

2—average, needs minor improvement

3—meets or exceeds, needs no improvement

.

Calculate the sub-total (the total of all your scores in a given column), then average them.
