ITEM DISCRIMINATION
EFFECTIVENESS OF DISTRACTORS ANALYZING THE TEST ITEMS
slide2. ITEM DIFFICULTY
slide3. ITEM DIFFCULTY DEFINITION:
The difficulty of an item is defined as the “percentage of students passing.”
OR
The percentage of students who got the item right.
slide4. FORMULA OF ITEM DIFFCULTY Formula:
P=H+L/N(100)
P=index of item difficulty.
H=number of students in high-scoring group who got the item right.
L=number of students in low-scoring group.
N =total number of students.
slide5. TABLE OF INDEX / ITEM NUMBER
slide6. EXAMPLE OF AVERAGE ITEM Formula:
P= H+L/N(100)
P= 6+4/20(100)
P= 10/20(100)
P= 0.5(100)
P= 50%
This percentage show that item is not easier or not difficult.
slide7. EXAMPLE OF EASY ITEM Formula:
P = H+L/N(100)
P = 10+10/20(100)
P = 20/20(100)
P = 1 (100)
P = 100
That an item is 100% difficult we mean that the item is so easy that all the students got it right.
slide8. EXAMPLE OF THE MOST DIFFICULT Formula:
P = H+L/N(100)
P =2+2/20(100)
P = 4/20(100)
P = 0.2(100)
P = 20%
This show that item is so difficult ,if the item is 0% percent difficult we mean that the item is so difficult that not a single student got it right .
slide9. WHY USE ITEM DIFFICULTY To check the difficulty level of item.
To know the student understanding.
In the beginning of the test 100% difficulty is motivated the student to attempt the test.
Teacher are conform to the desired level of difficulty by including easier or more difficult items.
