Deliver Persuasive Presentations that:

establish and develop a logical and controlled argument;

include relevant evidence, differentiating between evidence and opinion to support a position and to address counter-arguments or listener bias;

use persuasive devices such as rhetorical devices; anecdotes and appeals to emotion, authority and reason.

A persuasive speech establishes a fact, changes a belief and moves the listener to action.Slide4

Keys to a Successful Persuasive Speech

Choose a topic you feel strongly about and other people may have different views on.

Once you have chosen a topic, your next step is to

create a thesis statement

. The thesis statement clearly states the main idea of your speech in one sentence. For a persuasive speech, be sure the thesis clearly reflects your group's’ view of the subject. Slide5

Preparing/Writing The First Draft

You must create a logical argument giving details about why you should get what you want. Some persuasive strategy definitions include:

Claim: The main point of your argument.

Big Names: The experts referred to during a speech.Slide7

Call To Action:

The speaker will try to motivate the audience to action by using emotionally charged words or phrases and by specifically suggesting a course of action.Slide8

Logos: The logic or rationale of your argument.

Pathos: The emotional aspect to your argument.

Ethos: The trustworthiness of your claims.

Kairos: The urgency of your argument.

Research: The graphs, tables and illustrations that support your argument.Slide9

Organization

After outlining all areas of the argument, students can begin to write the first rough draft of their speech. To begin, the introduction should include the main topic and the argument. Include your thesis statement within this argument.

Next, the body of the paper should include correct sequencing of examples as well as a counter argument. It’s very important to include a counter argument in your speech.Slide11

Your presentation should focus on the following elements. Each of these elements could be the topic for your research and presentation.

Establish the problem-

The History of Malaria in Africa. How this affects individuals. Devastating statistic was used to support her argument. What inspired the speaker to take up her cause?Slide12

2. Propose Solution-

Mosquito Nets as well as education. Money needed in order to purchase the nets. How will you implement Solution.

3. Establish how solution will work-

Explain why your proposed solution will work/how effective will it be? Why are the bed nets so successful in preventing Malaria?Slide13

4. Call to Action: Her call to action was to donate to the organizations that provide the Mosquito nets.

5. Opposition:What is the opoostion’s point of view. Find fault with their argument and explain why you are correct

Finally, the conclusion of your speech should make a strong statement and give a call-to-action to the audience.
