Caption Support

YouTube provides 2 options for captions:

Video owner can upload a caption file, or

Auto-Captions (owner can disable)

Most video owners do not add their own caption files, so you are often left with either

Auto-Captions

or no captions (if

Auto-Captions

have been disabled).Slide3

YouTube Auto-Captions

A speech-recognition option provided by YouTube

Example:

CaptionFailSlide4

Non-Auto-Caption Options

Upload a caption file to the video

Not helpful if you do not own the account

Rip the video, caption it, repost it.

Creates copyright issues

A bit more technically involved

Use the

CaptionSync

SmartPlayer

Video must be embeddable and public

Requires original video to stick aroundSlide5

embedded

from YouTube (not copied)

Smart Player puts a frame around the video

Pulls caption data from your CaptionSync

account

Displays interactive transcript using this data

Displays captions using this data
