Consider the word “Environment” again, however this time put yourself in a developing country or 200 years in the past. Is your answer the same as it was before? What factors affect your worldview in this case?Slide4
Environmental Worldview
Influenced by: your background, culture, education, and society in which you live.
Your paradigm or worldview affects how you view environmental issues and you have already made various assumptions based on your values and attitudes.
Premise: Sea-level rise is a major problem.
How would someone in Oklahoma’s view of sea-level rise differ from someone in Virginia that lives on the coast? What could affect each person’s worldview on this issue? Slide5Slide6Slide7
Types of Environmental Philosophies
Ecocentric
: Life-Centered. Respects the rights of nature and the dependence of humans on nature.
Anthropocentric (human-centered) or
Technocentric
(planetary management): Humans are seen as the dominant species on Earth and we can manage the environment to suit our needs. Other species only have value if they are useful to us.

value system. Then with an anthropocentric value system. Write two paragraphs regarding deforestation for each EVS.
