Just like terms in an expression
Let’s write an expression to represent the next slide.
Remember y ou can only combine like people/dogs!
Expression: 3j + 3a + 2z + 2j Where j = Jaclyn a= Andrew z=ziti
3j + 3a + 2z + 2j Where j = Jaclyn a= Andrew z=ziti Notice the same person is represented with the same letter (j)
3j + 2j + 3a + 2z 3 j and 2j are the like terms, so those would be added together .
Final Expression: 5j + 3a + 2z
Now, try another one and see if you can write an expression and combine the LIKE terms.
Can you write an expression? Where j = james and a = andrew
j + 4a + 4j
Final Expression : 5j + 4a
So, what are like terms? A term that has to have the same letter in order to be combined . Keep practicing. In no time, you will be an Expert at combining like terms !
