Lessons It’s All About the Money, Money, Money Deciding On A College 101 Deciding On A College 202 You Want Me To Go Where? Some More About the Money

Homework

What better way to combat these stereotypes than working your way through school at a public university, graduating with no debt.

Unfortunately, yo u have to be careful with working and how it affects your financial aid package

Remember that 50% of your child’s earnings over $3,000 per year is subtracted off of the financial aid package

Working during college will not hurt your kid’s grades !

Turn some of that wasted time into productive time wi th a job!

As stated earlier, it also will have more of an impression on most employers that you worked to prove that you have a work ethic and good time management skills

Basically, have your student start working about 20 hours per week and then they can adjust up or down from there

Let’s not forget working 40 (or much more) hours per week during the summer

The idea that college is so stressful that a student should never have to work a job is ludicrous.

Definitely talk with the office that handles assigning work study and see if you can get something that will help build experience and/or networking in your field.

Beware of rip-off scam “ job opportunities” that people post ads about on campus

STAY AWAY from multi -level marketing

Some of the biggest corporations ( Facebook , Microsoft) were started by full time college students

Doing freelance work for a website is a great way to build up a portfolio and make a little extra money

Instead, use the money you would have spent on investing in college-town real estate

College town real estate is a good investment because college kids are always going to need a place to live

If you don’t want to be a landlord, it can be helpful to hire a company to manage your property

Towns with large public universities are usually the best places to find a need for off-campus housing

Find the beds-to- bodies ratio of the university

Check the vacancy rate in the town (national average is about 10 percent right now)

Condos are one of the best things to invest in, in college towns
