History
It’s incorporation as a city has been present since 1837.A street/area named Milwaukee was occupied by homes there at that time, and many businesses such as clothing, furniture, musical instrument, cigar manufacturers, and breweries added to the scene. Germans and Norwegians were the first groups to push into Milwaukee, soon to be called Wicker Park, and they were then followed by the Jews and Poles.Wicker Park’s northern boundary became Armitage, and from there, the sister neighborhood Bucktown comes into play.Development was slow at first, but today a rebirth is exploding and the neighborhood is thriving.Wicker Park includes restaurants, entertainment, classy shops that “offer everything from couturier garments to contemporary and antique home furnishings.” (wickerparkbucktown.com, History of the Wicker Park District)Slide3
