EMC Theories 1. Cues-Filtered-Out Theory: This theory suggests that communication of emotions is restricted when people send messages to others via e-mail or other electronic means because nonverbal cues such as facial expression and tone of voice are filtered out.

EMC Theories  2. Media Richness Theory: This theory identifies the richness of a communication medium based on the amount of feedback it allows, the number of cues receivers can interpret, the variety of language it allows, and the potential for emotional expression.   

EMC Theories3. Social Information-Processing Theory: This theory suggests that people can communicate relational and emotional messages via the Internet, although such messages take longer to express without nonverbal cues.  

Face-to-Face Interpersonal Relationships & CMC CMC is used to escalate and maintain face-to-face interpersonal relationships. E-mail, instant messaging, and text messaging are used heavily by 18-to 28-year-olds The impact of CMC on overall relationship time and quality is not yet clear. CMC helps create and maintain many social and support networks

Ways to Avoid or Handle Cyberstalking 1. Be careful about using your real name when interacting in chat rooms or posting messages on online public forums.2. Limit the amount and type of personal information you post in social media.3. Be careful about sharing your phone number with people you have just met. 4. Respond to harassment with assertive statements that you do not want to be contacted. Keep copies of the messages. Tell a trusted person what is happening. 5. Inform your internet or phone provider.6. Many harassing behaviors are illegal. Report abuse to the law enforcement authorities.

EMC Device Etiquette 1. If you are speaking with someone face-to-face, it is polite to ignore the phone and concentrate on the person you are with. This tells the person you are with that he or she is important to you.2. Loud conversations with others on a cell phone can be distracting to others in public places. Find a private place to talk, after excusing yourself. Avoid discussing personal matters where others can hear you. 3. Explain to others if you are expecting an important call. 4. Follow directions to turn off or mute your phone at events you attend. (I attended a funeral where someone's cell phone interrupted the service.)5. Texting others or checking Facebook during face-to-face events (church, class, and even family dinners) not only distracts you, but also those around you. It is rude.
