INFLAMMATION

What is inflammation?

it’s a body response against ( MILD or MODERATE) injury , it’s a first line of defense

.

Not severe enough to cause cell death (necrosis).

Slide2

Inflammation is of two types:

1- acute

:

sudden onset

2- chronic

:

gradually

3-sub-acute

:

something between the acute and chronic.Slide3

Aim of inflammation:

1- remove and destroy the irritant.

2- prevent further spreading of the irritant.

This irritant may be:

1- living : bacteria, viruses, parasites or fungi.

2- non-living: mechanical: shock, accident

Chemical, immunological.Slide4

1- chronic inflammatory cells Slide5

2- chronic inflammatory cellsSlide6

3- chronic inflammatory cells:Slide7

4- Giant cell ( langerhan’s

) specific :Slide8

5- Giant cell (foreign body) non-specific: Slide9

6- foreign body:Slide10

7- Acute inflammatory cells:Slide11

Mechanism of inflammation:

1- Vascular changes

2- Leukocytes “cellular” events

3- Chemical mediators of inflammation Slide12

8- Margination

of WBC’s:Slide13

9- Immigration of WBC’sSlide14

10- inflammatory reaction “dilated blood vessels”
