Arteries and veins Arteries: Transcript
Arteries are a type of blood vessel They are part of the human circulatory system Read the statements in the table What is your decision for each statement 1 Arteries only carry blood away from the heart. and Veins . Learning Outcomes. Arteries have an outer layer of connective tissue containing elastic fibres and a middle layer containing smooth muscle with more elastic fibres. The elastic walls of the arteries stretch and recoil to accommodate the surge of blood after each contraction of the heart. The smooth muscle can contract or relax causing vasoconstriction or vasodilation to control blood flow. 18 Anatomy . of blood vessels. Joe Pistack MS/ED. Circulatory system. Circulatory System consists of the heart and blood vessels.. The blood vessels are a series of connected, hollow tubes that begin and end in the heart.. and Lower Extremities.
