Discuss
how important these values are to the two groups of service users
To achieve 2A.M1, you will add to 2A.P1 by discussing of the importance of these values to current practice. You must provide at least one example for each of the key values, such as confidentiality, and its importance within health and social care in ensuring that personal and sensitive information is shared only on a ‘need-to-know’ basis. These examples could be instances of good or bad practice
. (When this is finished delete this paragraph please!)

Case Study: Elderly Service Users
Sylvie began working
on the hospital ward as a healthcare assistant for
older people six weeks ago. She loves her work and cares a great deal about the
patients.
The
ward manager has called Sylvie into the office because she has some concerns about Sylvie’s care value base. She highlights these examples of Sylvie’s working practice that she has recently observed.
Sylvie’s
manner is very warm, but she tends to call the
patients
by endearments, such as ‘sweetie’, ‘love’ and ‘treasure’ rather than their names.
Sylvie is quick to help the
patients,
reassuring them to ‘Just sit there’ while she fetches and carries, chooses the clothes they will wear and sees to their every need.
Sylvie has been overheard saying to a family member, ‘The old folk are so lovely – they’re just like babies needing to be fed and changed and kept warm.’Slide5
Case Study: Young Adults with Learning Disabilities
After a personalised assessment of his needs
Jim, who is 19 and from Leicester,
was
given a place at the residential facility. There
were concerns that
Jim was not managing very
well at home on his own.
He has a close family who were very worried about him. With regular support
Jim now manages
his money effectively. The support worker identified a component in his benefits that
Jim
had not applied for. The support worker liaised with the benefits agency and
Jim
got a large amount of money which had been back dated.
It
was identified that
Jim
enjoys playing pool so with support
Jim
joined his local pubs pool tournaments. He attends twice a week. With support
Jim has also joined
a community adult class doing pottery. He
attends
this once a week and takes pride in showing the support worker and his family his creations which he is able to bring
home at weekends.
Initially,
the support
worker attended
with
him then
Jim
felt confident enough to go independently.
With support
Jim
set up a time table for cleaning duties. He stuck to this and managed to
keep his room clean, and do his laundry. Jim feels
more confident now and enjoys his life.
At
a recent review the social worker thanked the support worker and the family stated “thank you so much it is like he is a different person he seems to have grown up.” Slide6
Assess the potential impact of the effective and ineffective application of care values on an individual from each of the two groups
To achieve 2A.D1,
you
are required to assess the potential impact of
effective and
ineffective application of care values on individual service users.
You should use the case studies on the red slides of good and bad
practice, they
cover all
5 care
values
. You must be able to assess the
impact of effective and ineffective application of
the care values on the individual service user.
